A man with a talent for making farcical facial expressions has taken over the internet after he became ‘promo guy’ for Australia’s Got Talent for his jaw dropping reaction to an act.

The member of the audience for the Channel Nine talent television show stared wide-eyed, appeared to mouth the words ‘what the?’ and dropped his jaw as he watched a performance.

Affectionately known only as ‘promo guy’, he’s become famed for his facial expressions that most have likened to puppet Beaker of The Muppets – with red hair and bug eyes to boot.

‘The guy looks like a caricature of himself,’ another wrote on Reddit, among more than 1,200 comments in the thread

‘That man’s mouth is upside down,’ one Reddit user wrote in amazement on the social media site

Other comparisons include the online meme known as 'ermahgerd girl.'

He’s also been likened to Pokémon character Magikarp, Rocko’s Modern Life character Edward Bighead, a number of characters from fellow children's cartoon Spongebob Squarepants, as well as adult cartoon Duckman.

‘Shoop Da Woop. We found him. The internet is over,’ one person wrote on Instagram.

One user on social media site Reddit was reminded of 1986 film Howard the Duck.

‘Australia’s not only got talent, it’s got the country’s weirdest looking bloke in the audience,’ another wrote on Twitter alongside a picture of 'promo guy' and Beaker

‘Honestly, at first glance, I thought he was the resultant child if Howard the Duck and Lea Thompson [who plays character Beverly] had a baby.’

‘The guy looks like a caricature of himself,’ another wrote on Reddit, among more than 1,200 comments in the thread.

While some on the social media site were curious to know what he’d been watching and when they too could watch it, most are infatuated with the facial expressions which have become an act of their own.

One commenter online compared 'promo guy' to the online meme known as 'ERMAHGERD girl'

New host of Australia’s Got Talent Dave Hughes seemed to agree.

‘That guy should win,’ Hughesy told TODAY.

He said he wasn’t sure which act the man had been watching, either.

Some have suggested ‘promo guy’ is simply an actor paid for to be in the 2016 program's promotion - although Nine has confirmed this is untrue.

‘This is a promo for Australia’s Got Talent, not an actual audience member. Look at the guy behind him on the left in the red shirt – he’s CGI [computer-generated imagery],’ one wrote.

The man at the centre of the Australia's Got Talent promotion has also been compared to 'lol meme' (pictured right)

He's also been likened to ‘Shoop da Whoop’ meme which is said to have originated from Dragon ball z. ‘Shoop Da Woop. We found him. The internet is over,’ one person wrote on Instagram

One person also compared him to a rubber chicken

‘Hey I’d be pretty freaked out too if the audience member sitting next to me was computer generated,’ another wrote.

‘Probably a hired actor. There’s more light on him than the other people, plus no one else seems to be reacting to whatever he’s supposedly looking at.’

‘There is that girl behind him doing this dainty golf clap, and he’s acting like someone just removed their own heart from their chest,' another said.

A spokeswoman from Nine Entertainment has confirmed for Daily Mail Australia that he was a normal member of the audience and not a paid actor.

Despite the scepticism, most have fallen in love for the now famed promo guy with funny faces.

‘Australia’s not only got talent, it’s got the country’s weirdest looking bloke in the audience,’ one person wrote on Twitter.

‘Th….That man’s mouth is upside down,’ another said in amazement.

Some have also said 'promo guy' looks like Pokémon character Magikarp (left) or Rocko’s Modern Life character Edward Bighead (right). He's also been compared to adult cartoon Duckman, as well as a number of characters from children’s cartoon Spongebob Squarepants
