I like how he is talking about free speech, when really it is just a business making a business decision.

They're making a decision to censor speech.

You don't really have freedom of speech if it means you won't be allowed to work because of it.

Come on, you know better. Business decisions and public opinion both have exactly nothing to do with the constitutional right to freedom of speech. It's only an issue when law or government action is involved. That's not a technicality.

The alternative would be having government monitor every private and business interaction to ensure speech was not being infringed. Is THAT what you're saying you want?

Than let business make the decision...if you lose listeners fire him then.

if i can speak but am not allowed to work because of my speech, what good is it?

it's also a very vivid double standard that is in play here. Certain people who have made extremely inflammatory comments are still working at Sirius (Jamie Foxx, Al Sharpton, Howard Stern)

I think you set up a bit of a false dilemma in your second paragraph.

It's also not a public opinion matter, because the story is so recent most people knew nothing of it. It's a case of a few (sorry, but I have to say it) left-wing media outlets drumming up outrage about a story that would have otherwise never gotten any traction.

If it really were a matter of huge organic public outcry causing him to be fired, I would have much less of a problem with it. Unfortunately, biased media outlets and a few small professional victim groups hold an inordinate amount of influence in determining whose scalps are claimed in the entertainment business.

But like I said, I doubt we will agree on that. I still like you just the same, PdS

But let's say you're right, and left wing zealots have undue influence over a private business decision. What exactly would you suggest to rectify that / keep it from happening?

It would be refreshing to see a company just stand behind someone for a change. The could penalize him somehow for causing them a bit of grief but say that they support his rights. If it was said on the show I would feel a bit different perhaps since it is their airways but firing him over his twitter is a shit move. Personally I think he has said worse on the air.

It's not his right to have a job, if the company that employs him doesn't want him working there anymore.

I didn't say he had a right to his job and it is absolutely their right to fire him for whatever. I just said it would be nice if they didn't. Can you read?

    Its a pipe dream, but:

    1. Pressure biased media organizations to become more balanced or at least render them marginalized

    2. Have opposing groups with equal power and influence to counter existing grievance groups

I think they fired him because they already know O&A are not going to resign in a few months. But this is just a sign of the times where saying something is actually worst than physically attacking someone if you happen to be the wrong color.
