Obama topped by Putin, Merkel for world's most powerful person

a list that also includes the likes of President Barack Obama, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen and Pope Francis, Putin took home the No. 1 ranking for the third year in a row. Obama, meanwhile, fell one spot to No. 3, edged out by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who climbed up three spots from last year's fifth-place ranking.


In order to create the list, Forbes editors evaluated individuals based on four factors.

Each potentially powerful person was considered based on the financial resources they control, their ability to exert power over large numbers of people, whether they have power in multiple spheres of life and their active use of the power they have.

After the editors made four separate rankings for those categories, Forbes pulled together an average to make composite scores.

While people like Putin and Obama rank highly on a yearly basis, billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump were both new inclusions on the Forbes list this year.

Yes, falling in the rankings of a magazine's list that started in 2009 (first time in the HISTORY OF THE POWER RANKINGS aka 6 years) has really brought the US to its knees. Who knew it'd be so easy?

 

you're right - this magazine was the only metric i was basing my claim on. the rampant poverty, 19 trillion in debt, credit downgrades, pathetic labor force participation, isis, new cold war, new war in syria, usurping of the constitution on numerous occasions, and creation of almost exclusively low paying jobs didn't factor in at all.

 

It's weird that Obama was topped by Putin and Merkel, usually he's only topped by Michelle

That's how bad Obama is: he's the leader of the world's most powerful nation and he still fails to be the most powerful person. I guess the guys who made up the list don't believe in social promotion.

Are you really placing the destabilization of the Middle East at the feet of Obama? And the rising poverty, which was rising before he took office?
