I think it's a really bad idea to significantly raise the capital gains tax - it will make it much more difficult to raise funding for start-ups and other small businesses.

No mention was made about any spending cuts - it would be nice if any new or increased taxes would require spending cuts.

It's probably a moot point, as it is very unlikely the proposed tax increases will be passed by congress.

Trickle down economics needs at least 40 years before we start seeing results. Why is he being so impatient.

In addition, the president is proposing to streamline a jumble of educational tax credits and give students up to $2,500 annually toward earning a college degree. Students who attend school less than half the time would also qualify for the first time, and more of the credit, $1,500, would be available regardless of whether an individual owed any taxes.

He aint doing shit to shit.

Didn't he get the message last November? He's done. Elections have consequences you know.

Are they going to have to drag him out of the White house in 2 Years? Hey its almost exactly two years to the day when he hits the road for good.

What next? "Obama announces plan to repeal 22nd amendment to Constitution by Presidential decree ... Needs unlimited terms."

    Dumbass.

If he's going to give away free shit, he needs to give it to old people, like Bush did. They vote.

But maybe he isn't all in in trying to help Cankles Clinton.

He knows it's a horrible idea, he also knows there's no way it will pass congress. The whole point is going out to the (gullible) people and claiming they would be getting all this awesome free stuff from the democrats if only the evil, poor-hatin', racist republicans didn't keep denying it to them.

Oh, you must have missed the 25 year boom from what you label "trickle down". You also must have missed Reagan's 8 years where wages and wealth and gdp skyrocketed.

Under what you call "trickle down", wages went up. Under Obamanomics, wages have gone down significantly. Even last month, in the midst of "recovery", wages went down. Poverty is at record levels, far more debt has been added to the country than during any other presidency, and the labor force is the lowest it's been in 40 years.

So on one hand, we have supply side which demonstrably worked, and on the other hand, we have an old style left-wing economic system which has failed. Somehow, you attempt to demonize the former while defending the latter.

So not only should we pay for everyone's community college, we should pay people to go to college. Not only that, we should pay people who attend school less than half of the time.

    Please don't vote

    All.

At the White House just three days after the inauguration in 2008, when the new president gathered congressional leaders of both parties to discuss his proposed economic stimulus. House Republican Whip Eric Cantor gave President Obama a list of modest proposals for the bill. Obama said he would consider the GOP ideas, but told the assembled Republicans that "elections have consequences" and "I won." Backed by the largest congressional majorities in decades, the president was not terribly interested in giving ground to his vanquished adversaries.

Tax the rich, sure, I am all for it. How do you do that exactly? Congress won't pass any such laws. Any tax code change will just have loopholes the rich will find and end up not paying a dime. Other than seizing their wealth there really is no great way to do other than giving incentives to the wealthy to participate in the social fabric of the country. Like getting them to build infrastructure projects, provide money for education, etc.

If you are suggesting we go back to Reagan era tax rates then okay. I would be willing to give it a try.
