Kind of brilliant how he used the gays. Says he discovered that in some deep dark corner of his heart that he believes in gay marriage and gets all their support without ever lifting a finger. Jokes on them.

I think Romney supported a constitutional ban on Gay marriage. Not 100% positive though.

No I think he changed to that like on October 20, 2012. He supported a federal ammendment to define marriage as a union of one man and one woman throughout his campaign and in the republican debates. It is wrong to say he had the exact same postion as Obama on Gay marriage.

He told them in June he wants states to decide the issue.

How is that using gays? He was being honest.

Obama also hasn't defended the Defense of Marriage Act.

Obama was just giving lip service. If he was for it he would fight for it, not wait for someone else to carry the torch. That's the definition of lip service.

    Obama is being realistic.

He needs Republicans to get gay marriage legalized nationally.

That's not going to happen -- at least until after the Republicans lose the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

Then they'll "evolve" on the issue, like they're evolving on Latinos.

18 years ago, Republicans hated Latinos with a passion.

Now they're learning to love them.

So you agree it was just lip service.

He needs Republicans for tax increases, too. Why isn't he being "realistic" on those? I bet we could find a lot of things that Obama supports that he can't get Republican support for. Why does being "realistic" only enter in when it comes to gay marriage?

He doesn't need republicans for tax increases, current tax rates expire. Obama and Republicans can either allow them to expire on everyone, expire on the wealthy, or potentially change the tax code (like Obama was willing to do until Boehner backed out of the deal in 2011.) I'll let you look up why the current tax rates could never be made permanent even with a republican house and senate.
