A devilish group based in New York believes it should be perfectly OK.
The group, which calls itself "The Satanic Temple," today unveiled its proposal for a monument it intends to erect next to another religious statue: a depiction of the Ten Commandments.

According to The Satanic Temple's application, the proposed monument features a large pentagram and “a 7-foot tall goat-headed Baphomet that sits cross-legged flanked by a child on both sides. The lap will serve as a seat for visitors.â€

It would also include quotes from poets William Blake and Lord Byron.

The monument, said the group’s spokesman, was designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and could doubly serve as a tourist attraction.
“The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures,†said spokesman Lucian Greaves. “The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.â€

Oklahoma state legislators in 2009 approved the installation of a privately-funded Ten Commandments monument. It was installed last year over the protests of the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. The Satanic Temple wasn’t the only group to apply for a monument; People for the Ethical

Treatment of Animals, the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and a Hindu group have also requested a place near the Capitol steps.

"Either way you cut it, this is a First Amendment issue," Greaves said. "Once they open that door, they can't discriminate."

Freedom of religion. And from religion.

    Good idea.

The god believers can't have their cake and eat it too.

Uh, if someone believes in Satan, that person also believes in God.

A "belief" in the existence of a being does not constitute "faith" in that being.

Jews "believe" Jesus existed. They also refer to him as a "false prophet." In Islam, they believe in Jesus and consider him a prophet but they don't worship him.

So, believing in "Satan" does not necessarily mean a belief (faith-wise) in God.

Agree. Church and state, two separate things. If it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander. Satanists, Wiccans, Muslims, Scientologists. If Christians get a place in the public square, so do they. All right, everybody but the Scientologists.

According to some, God and Satan are myths made up by the same author. Ya know, God=goodness while Satan=evil. One can't exist without the other.

Sure you can. You can reject God as an omnipotent being and sure, he exists, but he's not the individual in whom you place your faith/belief.

Not a difficult concept to grasp here, pal.

I don't recall my post saying anything about Satanists believing in a god.

But no. theists believe in a god or gods, atheists do not. But atheists may believe in the supernatural or a Satan figure - as Satan is a not a god. Atheism is solely a stance on the belief in gods, it does not account for anything else.

    According to some, maybe.

But Yahweh Sabaoth, Lord of Armies, is not a 'good god'. And Satan is a fallen angel figure, not an 'evil' figure.
