I'm listening to some old '06 shows, and Howard's going on about the Les Moonves/CBS lawsuit. Whatever happened in it? Any inside information? I've searched the web, and only see that Wiggy got back the tapes, and paid $2 million for them. The rest they say is confidential. Les was suing Wiggy for like 500 million or so, though...and Howard swore he'd never settle.

I'm curious if Howard paid or Sirius paid.

That whole CBS vs. Howard thing was bizarre. I can't believe they would let him back on the air and not tell him straight up: "You can't talk about Sirius Radio because they're a rival company." Even referring to it as "eh-eh-eh" was total bullshit. I would've relaxed the ban for the last week he was on the air and I don't think it would be that bad for him to go out and promote the new gig, but his incessant talking about Sirius for the last year on WXRK was haaaaaaarible.

I'm not sure that's exactly what the lawsuit was about. Howard said it was, but that's only Howard's side of the story, and I now know how big of a bullshitter he is. I never heard CBS's side. The way Wiggy bitched about it incessantly had an air of "He doth protest too much" to it.

the lawsuit was bullshit and I'm sure it was filed over jealousy since Howard Stern was big on the radio
But whatever were the details of the lawsuit, Howard did win by getting his radio tapes back and the rights to them.

And I think the reason Howard stopped talking about the lawsuit cause I'm sure they filed a gag order.

Smoking Gun has the original court filing http://www.thesmokinggun.com/file/cbs-sues-howard-stern

My take on the case is that CBS initially didn't care about Wiggie blabbering about Sirius until they found out about the large bonus of hundreds of millions of dollars that was in the Siruis contract based on subscriptions sold leading up to the Sirius Stern Show launch . Basicly Wiggie and Buchwald used the remaining 2 years of the Howard Stern show as a daily 5 hour infomercial to sell Sirius radios and subscriptions in order for The Wig and Buchwald to pocket hundreds of millions of dollars. That is why CBS sued Howard, Buckwald and Sirius.

Wiggie also could have been in violation of his contract with CBS because it could be interpreted that he was already under contract by Sirius before his CBS contract expired because of the subscriber bonuses.

They also cover how much the Wig was being paid by CBS, $58.8 million from 2001 to the end of 2005. $39.1 million the 5 years before that. That's not counting the stock and bonuses!! Also the document says that Howard and Buchwald got most of the syndication money to pocket. Just sick to think about him making that much money but Jackie and Billy West couldn't be taken care of.

The judge sentenced Howard to be Les' butler, and interview his wife on the show.

When Jackie quit the show in 2001 he was making close to million dollars a year with his E! contract money. To say that Jackie wasn't "take care of" is ridiculous. Jackie the dope also walked away from another 20-25 million and probably more over the next 19 years from the time he quit in 2001.

:dontknow: No one ever heard of Jackie prior to THSS and he's done nothing since leaving the show over the last 14 years. I liked Jackie on the show and wish he would have stayed but he really should have just sucked it up and stayed with the show.

I would imagine having to choke on this shit sandwich is worse then anything he had to deal with on THSS.

jackie was somewhat known before Stern, before I ever even heard of Stern I saw him as the headliner in a movie with Chris Rock , Tim Allen , otto and George and a few others. Also Rick Dees was having him on way before Stern.

But was he at the same level, no and was he again, no. The thing is he could have easily gone to another show and wrote jokes for them and probably would have been just as successful. I have to assume it was his choice to retire after Stern because he never got an agent. even a junkie no-talent like artie can get gigs and he's a way bigger liability and way less known than Jackie was at the time he quit.
