Great video, but WTF is with the music starting at 3:15 and at 5:13 the music is just ridiculous.
The amazing grace song is out and out goofy
The cops in this video look like sterotype Irish cops .
Back when Howard was relevant
There are a few errors. At 3:52, there is footage of a man and a woman allegedly walking along 23rd Street. The woman walks over a subway grate, a passing subway train passes underneath, the wind from the tunnel blows up through the grate, blowing up her skirt like Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch, and there are a few yuks. The date for the footage is given as 1902.
This is impossible. First, the first NYC subway line did not open until late October of 1904. There were no other underground rail lines in NYC before then. Therefore, the train that blew up her skirt wasn't running in 1902. The man and woman are not wearing coats, suggesting spring or summer weather. That means the earliest the footage could have been taken is spring 1905, not 1902. Second, there has never been a line running along 23rd Street. The only subway line that ran crosstown under Manhattan in that era was the IRT, which ran under 42nd Street between Grand Central and Times Square (today's shuttle line). To this day, there is no crosstown line that runs under 23rd Street - in addition to the 42nd Street line, there are lines that run under 14th Street, 53rd Street and 63rd Street. But these were not opened until well after this footage was obtained.
So the film producer got the year and the location wrong. It is a fascinating video but I suspect that much of the footage was taken later than the years stated.
Everyone in that video is now worm food
Even the worms are dead
Sad but true. Do you think of death alot Satan? Btw they had a best names thread here last weekend no mention of'shithead'. Shithead is an awesome name.
Too long to watch. What year????
The Lower East Side....this place really sucks!
I just wiish they had better cameras back then
Awesome post. I wonder how far the guy at 1:32 had to run to get his hat back.
early on a cop was twirling his billy club like you see in cartoons
Then I guess you don't know the history behind the song. That's OK.
I watched the whole thing, uphill both ways, it was so good!
thanks, that was fun...love old films of NY
"You know Robin, I watched the video and saw those two guys fighting and thought, I wonder how how much people would have paid to see them fight nude?"
