Douchebag said today that there were 400,000 or so subscribers to Sirius when he arrived and now there are 27 million Sirius subscribers implying it was because of him. He conveniently incorrectly said Sirius instead of Sirius/XM when he talked about the 27 million today. He must have forgotten that the overwhelming majority of the 27 million came from XM where he was an absolute non factor as they did not carry his show and that it is XM that made the Sirius/XM numbers soar.. He must be negotiating through his show today for his next contract.

I just heard it & to be fair he never said it was due to him.
He said when he signed people thought he was crazy due to the low sub count
Just that he said one day he imagined the company having 30m subs & they are almost there & congratulated the company.

He started his statement saying Sirius and said they now have 27 million never clarifying that the 27 million was due to the merger or saying it was Sirius/XM that had the 27 million. Even if he did not say it was because of him we all know him well enough to know what he was doing.

it's a fake number. Most of the "subs" are free trials. He can pat SXM and himself on the back all he wants, but this medium will be dead once wifi is in cars unless they change their business model.

Has he ever at the least disclosed the number of XM subscribers who've agreed to pay a surcharge to listen to his show? I know he conveniently dodges any actual ratings numbers (and that's why he can never work on terrestrial again demanding even half of what he gets paid), but surely even to provide an incomplete picture, XM Sirius knows exactly how many XM subscribers are paying for Howard and what the retention rate is or isn't.

    Actually that is not true
In their quarterly they separate the two (they have to)
There are also some deals in place where the car co. pay for the "trials"
But no way are 27m paying $15 per month

I said this in other threads. SXM charges for advertising so they do send numbers to advertisers.
O&A discussed that they were #2 behind Stern in listeners for non music channels (Hits-1 I think was ahead of them) & that stern was ahead by a decent margin
An ad-sheet hit the web about 5 years ago, but I don't think anything since then
So there is at least an IDEA of how many listen

That is a great question too...btw, just so anyone knows, they don't disconnect you when you quit anymore, they try to charge you after you stop paying them, even if you call them to disconnect the service. I just had to have my card reverse a months charges on them and they called me.

    For ex:

Additional third quarter 2014 financial and operating highlights:

Strong subscriber growth. Net subscriber additions in the third quarter were 432,817, bringing total subscribers up nearly 5% to 26.7 million. Self-pay net subscriber additions in the third quarter were 379,598, bringing the self-pay subscriber base up nearly 7% to 22.0 million. Total trials underway at the end of the third quarter of 2014 were approximately 7.4 million, the largest in SiriusXM's history, up from approximately 6.9 million at the end of the third quarter of 2013.

They separate the self pay - $22m & trials - 7.4m & say they have 26.7m subs which means 4.7m are paid trials from car manufacturers

The lawsuit answered that, "best of" subs for both services totaled 700,000. In the legal ruling the judge said even if every one of those subs got a best of package for Stern it still wouldn't trigger his bonus clause. Of those 700,000, many were obviously Best of XM accounts from Sirius subscribers, others got Best of Sirius for the NFL, others got them as part of package deals etc, so in reality maybe 100,000 people got a best of package for Stern out of, at the time,12 million XM subscriptions.

Maybe I don't understand, but this is Sirixm 2015 guidance:
The company also issued 2015 guidance for net subscriber additions, revenue, adjusted EBITDA, and free cash flow:
    • Net subscriber additions of approximately 1.2 million,
    • Revenue of approximately $4.4 billion,
    • Adjusted EBITDA of approximately $1.6 billion, and
    • Free cash flow of approximately $1.25 billion.

    • Take their revenue of 4.4 billion and divide by 27 million subscribers. Then divide this number about $162 by 12 months $13.58. This obviously includes advertising revenue, but I doubt the big car companies pay them to have this installed in their cars.

    Some do
That is why Sirius (before the merger) was allowed to count 100-150k in cars sitting in car lots, because they were paid by the car manufacturers

"Robin, they tell me that 95% of XM subscribers who cannot get Howard 100 and Howard 101 only subscribe because they want to be close to us and even though they cannot get our channels, they are satisfied in supporting the company that employs us."

Especially so if they don't do something to change that '2 tin cans and a string' quality sound.

Early versions of this story were a million plus subs and he's whittled history down to now 400k.

Funny. The two sub bases come together and there are less subs than during the just-Sirius days.

    No. More bullshit.

When he signed there was about 600k, maybe when they started negotiating there was less

I don't understand the "two sub bases come together and there are less subs than during the just-Sirius days." lines though

But Stern is The King Of All Number Spinning

Radio manufacturers pay for the right to use their technology in their equipment. If you buy a radio or a car with a radio that has a Sirius receiver, Sirius gets a fee for that. Car manufacturers negotiate a discounted rate because the number of units they produce and Sirius wanting to get into more cars, but Sirius does not give away the technology for free.
