I have been trying to catch up on the nominated movies before Sunday. I'd love to hear opinions in this exceptionally weak year for movies. Here is my take on the best pic nominees.

Best Motion Picture of the Year
The Artist - artsy fartsy, well done but I couldn't get through it.
The Descendants - Boring, I can't understand this nomination.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - Decent but not believable and a semi tear jerker.
The Help - May be good but I hate movies like this. It very well may win.
Hugo - Brilliant but nobody saw it.
Midnight in Paris - Entertaining. I liked it.
Moneyball - Good movie but Best Picture? Pitt's turn to win I hope.
The Tree of Life - Can't handle the subject matter.
War Horse - Didn't come close to the hype. Lassie with horse.

    Anyone else? Vyb? Warmth?

Out of these, I only saw Midnight in Paris. I liked it, too.

These days when I get to the movies it's with my daughter and they're rated G. We just saw one about the whales with Jim from The Office. :c. That one may have been PG.

To be honest the tree of life was my favorite movie I saw this year...but as you say the subject matter is to dark for the academy

Haven't seen any of them, have no desire to...The Help will sweep though, because of white guilt...

Okay I watched The Help. I grew up in Los Angeles where no one had maids. I don't know what Mississippi was like in the 50's but weren't the characters a little too stereotypical? That's why I stopped watching the first time. It was well acted certainly. Ron Howard's daughter is turning out to be an interesting actress. I give it a solid B.

I don't think I can watch it. I think the best movie I saw this year was Dragon Tattoo.

I was really excited about TTSS but didn't think it was that good. Maybe I should try watching it again?
