News Outrageous Kindergarten Application Question

Discussion in 'The Howard Stern Show' started by John Coktoaston, Jul 1, 2015.

?

If officials at a public school asked questions about the birth of a student, how would you reply?

  1. I would give an honest response

    11.6%
  2. I would tell them to fuck off, and that it is none of their business

    58.0%
  3. I would leave it blank

    30.4%

I get that schools want to know a little something about incoming students, but this question posed to parents of incoming Kindergarteners seems a bit over the top:

"As her husband began to answer questions, Paiuk says she noticed one particularly alarming request for information. The question, in a section about 'birth history' asked whether her son was delivered vaginally or via C-section."

(Stern related because he used to talk about vaginas on his radio program)

Why not just ask "were there any birth traumas?" on the application of that's what they ultimately really want to know

i keep staring at that picture, i am sure to have nightmares.

I hate to break it to you, sweetheart, you are fucking hideous and aint no one asking about your vagina.

and your kid definitely does look like perhaps there is something not right with him. Not that that has anything to do with your vagina or a c-section, but i hope you have him checked out thoroughly. He is not right.

Eh. Maybe the school board is run by Scientologists. You know, the whole engrams (negative impression) or whatever being implanted from the moment of conception. Where's @skylarbrie to address this?

P.S. Tough crowd here. That's just a little kid who probably didn't ask his mother to post him for a Yahoo article. Go a little easier, yes?

I understand why their pediatrician wants to know this information, but not the school.

I don't get why the school is asking about this. It's really odd.

Don't worry... It won't come up again until 3rd grade or so when they Google the kid and find that story and this thread.

Hey kid! Your mom is a moron!

Perhaps they could have worded it differently, as @Alisonsbankacct stated, but it's not that outrageous. Trauma during birth can cause myriad issues later for children, from fine motor skill issues to learning disabilities. Having as much info as possible makes it easier to diagnose a possible issue, and get the child some help, sooner rather than later.

:secret:(Just in case you forgot, I taught kdg. for 20+ years, so I'm really not just talking out of my ass :grad: )

then why not just ask WHAT IT IS THE ARE TRYING TO FIND OUT?

was there any trauma during birth?

it doens't use the word vagina. and also, c-section vs natural is an extremely hot button issue with snooty moms these days, it's like breastfeeding. which is probably just as relevant, but they don't ask that

y0ur point is vaild, their question is as retarded as the kid in question

Sure, but this would be well-documented long before Kindergarten (birth trauma) and school officials, even special Ed ppl, are not in a position to determine whether or not method/pathway of world entry affected the child. It's not even a good screening question, because as we women who've had children know, either way can cause problems. It's a weird question IMO.

Unfortunately, not everyone is like us, and some have no clue what is going on with their kids. "Normal" parents make sure their kids get a yearly check-up, and discuss milestones with their pediatricians. If there are any concerns, it gets addressed as soon as possible.

I would need a whole separate thread to discuss the things I've seen and dealt with after 20+ years of teaching in the ghetto. Most of these parents were completely clueless! How does your kid get to be 5 or 6 without you noticing they can't speak? Or hear? Or see? Or follow directions? I think you get my point. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't want to derail this thread, so I'm going to stop here.

But, back to your point, I can see how it would seem like a strange and unnecessary question to a normal person, but again, I don't think it's that outrageous. :dontknow:

Thanks, girlfriend. I appreciate that. It's literally the only thing I ever wanted to do, long before I was even IN kdg. :p
