I have never paid a cent (thank god) to listen to the HSS. Has anyone ever seen any statistics as to what percentage of listeners pay for the show rather than downloading or using someone else's subscription?

Also, has Howie ever addressed the fact on-air that a large portion of Sirius listeners do not pay for the show?

Interesting how stealing has become a way of life for an entire generation. Several years back a guy offered to let me transfer 5,000 songs from his HD. I knew he stole them because the guy didn't have much money and was too young to have even heard that much music. I lost a lot of respect for him then. Ironically his father was in software sales, a favored victim of pirates.

but if this music was on a cassette tape recorded from his LP's it would be ok and you would respect said person?

how would anyone possibly collect those stats? its like asking what percentage of people don't commit crimes. you can only know about the ones that are caught (confessing doesn't count because everyone lies), and since its a property crime the clearance on it would be exceptionally low.

if you dont think the show is worth a few dollars, why do you think its worth your time?

    stealing is low class

I find it impossible to believe that the people bitching about "stealing" dont have any pirated content or even EULA breaching (music, movies, TV, radio, books, software) on their boxes.

    sorry.

pretty sure everyone could be accused of it, since the fair use doctrine is regularly challenged by the recording industry. if you have an mp3 of the show on your computer, there's no way to tell if you recorded it yourself or if you downloaded it. in the case of howard's show, it is totally reasonable that a fan might have 10 years worth of the show on his disc (because we're nuts) and under fair use, thats ok.

then you have the people who do both, pay for the service and dl the show..i'll admit i do this. I have an XM sub and a Sirius sub in two different cars but still download the show for convenience

if i do, it's certainty not on purpose.

I find it impossible to believe that the people defending stealing, would still defend stealing if their wallet was stolen.
also, you kids aren't stealing from howard. he gets paid exactly the same now even if no one subscribed. the loses are absorbed by other subscribers, and stockholders.

you think walmart eats the losses on stolen items? they dont, they raise prices to make up the difference.
the other shoppers pay for the stolen items

This defense certainly wouldn't be sufficient in a real criminal case

So you are claiming to have never been in conscious violation of a copyright or EULA?

also, "stealing" is not the best way to describe it. technically if you pay for the subscription and you download also, is it stealing? if you pay for the subscription and record a copy for your collection, it's not stealing (the definition of "Fair Use"); if you pay for the subscription and record a copy for your collection, and then lend the copy to your neighbor it's still not stealing ("Fair Use" again). If your neighbor then makes 10 copies and gives them to his friend, suddenly it's stealing and you might be charged as an accessory. how can someone else's unauthorized behaviors change your legal actions into an illegal action without your knowledge?
