    Excuse the cut and paste.

American troops were exposed to chemical weapons multiple times in the years following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, while the Pentagon kept their discoveries of the expired or degraded weapons secret from investigators, fellow soldiers, and military doctors, according to a published report.

The New York Times reported late Tuesday that American troops reported finding approximately 5,000 chemical warheads, shells, or aviation bombs in the years following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. On at least six occasions, soldiers were wounded by those weapons, which had been manufactured before 1991. In all, the paper reported that 17 U.S. soldiers and seven Iraqi police officers were exposed to chemical agents during the war. The U.S. government said its number was slightly higher, but did not release a specific figure.

In the months after the 2003 invasion, The Times reports, the Pentagon first made searching for chemical weapons a lower priority in the midst of attacks from insurgents, then withheld data from high-level investigations, including the Iraq Study Group in 2004 and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in 2006. During the latter investigation, the paper reports, U.S. soldiers discovered more than 2,400 chemical rockets, some containing sarin gas, at a former Republican Guard compound. All appeared to have been buried before the first Gulf War in 1991.

So do you think those that poked fun at Bush's claim of Weapons of Mass Destruction will offer a retraction?

If the Government was hiding this information what else are they hiding?

fucking generals or politicians deciding yet again what to tell us and not giving a shit about the troops.

i can't figure out why they would hide this unless they were concerned that our troops would freak out and not perform well being too worried about gas.

they need to find the scum who signed off on hiding this shit and yank their retirement packages and their rank.

If I remember right the discussion was always about chemical weapons and the potential for hidden stockpiles to land in the hands of terrorist groups. Sometimes history proves people right.

You remember correctly but progressives only understand things in rhymes. So the fact holds that "bush lied and people died" until you can come up with a better rhyme.

Bush knew but the Pentagon hid it from you.
    or
Bush was right, and your momma ain't tight.
    or
Bush told the truth, but the Dems were on a path to destroy him so they lied to the American public.

while in Iraq the first time, the US discovered stockpiles of illegal chemical weapons, unfortunately they were labeled "made in U.S.A", so to avoid embarrassment the stockpiles were exploded and the ensuing toxic mist infected hundreds, if not thousands of soldiers who wouldn't wear their gas masks because of the extreme desert heat

    Remember That Mushroom Cloud?
President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell and George Tenet, to name a few leading figures, built support for the war by telling the world that Saddam Hussein was stockpiling chemical weapons, feverishly developing germ warfare devices and racing to build a nuclear bomb.

There obviously were chemical weapons. The guy never destroyed them under supervision and if he had destroyed them he would have wanted credit for doing so. For obvious reasons, they were hidden in caches.

CHEMICAL WEAPONS FOUND BY AMERICAN FORCES IN IRAQ
Between 2004 and 2010, American forces in Iraq encountered thousands of
chemical munitions. In several cases, troops were exposed to chemical agents.

    source?

My understanding is we provided some assistance in developing the weapons, such as anthrax to grow more with, etc, not the weapons themselves.

    :umm:

But I thought there were absolutely NO chemical weapons left in Iraq before the invasion, Bush just invaded to help his oil buddies. Right?
