So the music nerdz say Peter Gabriel era is better I guess because its more 'artistic' and wasn't hugely popular. Patrick Bateman says Phil Collins era is better. Well I agree with Patrick Bateman. Are there songs that sound like Phil Collins solo ? Yes of course. Are there just as many songs that don't sound like Phil Collins solo. Yes of course and don't forget it. 'Tonight, Tonight, Tonight' album version (fuck the radio edit/single) slays all. Monkey Zulu up your asshole.

It goes album by album for me, whether it's Collins or Gabriel.

My 2 favorites are Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Duke.

Some of the later Collins stuff was dreck though.

Gabriel all the way. That choice is like asking which Chicago band do you like Kath or Cetera.

To be fair to the Phil Collins era, there were multiple versions of it. They were serious musicians when they recorded albums like Duke and Abacab. They were pop hacks when they did Invisible Touch (although there are a few good tunes on that album) and on. Basically, the album "Genesis" was the last really good Genesis album and their turn to pop.
