..than they are with fellow, less religious Jews.

A new report published by the Pew Research Center claims that Orthodox Jews more closely resemble evangelical Christians in their religious and political beliefs than other American Jews.

    http://www.jns.org/news-briefs/2015...angelicals-more-than-other-jews#.VeW70SVVhBc=
“Indeed, in a few ways, Orthodox Jews more closely resemble white evangelical Protestants than they resemble other U.S. Jews,” the report stated.

According to Pew, Orthodox Jews tend to identify as Republicans and take more conservative positions on social issues such as homosexuality than most other American Jews, who tend to be more politically liberal.

“For example, similarly large majorities of Orthodox Jews (83%) and white evangelicals (86%) say that religion is very important in their lives, while only about one-fifth of other Jewish Americans (20%) say the same,” Pew said.

The center added, “Roughly three-quarters of both Orthodox Jews (74%) and white evangelicals (75%) report that they attend religious services at least once a month. And eight-in-ten or more Orthodox Jews (84%) and white evangelicals (82%) say that Israel was given to the Jewish people by God – more than twice the share of other American Jews (35%) who express this belief.”

While Orthodox Jews only comprise about 10 percent of the estimated 5.3 million Jewish adults in the U.S., their numbers are rapidly growing, according to Pew. Orthodox Jewish adults are on average a full decade younger than the median age of other Jewish adults (52), and bear at least twice as many children as other Jews (4.1 versus 1.7). Additionally, 98 percent of Orthodox Jewish parents say they are raising their children Jewish, compared with 78 percent among other Jewish parents.

If this trend continues, Orthodox Jews “gradually could shift the profile of American Jews in several areas, including religious beliefs and practices, social and political views and demographic characteristics,” Pew concluded.

There are other ways in which Orthodox Jews are more similar to evangelicals than to their non-Orthodox co-religionists. Orthodox Jews and Christian evangelicals attend religious services frequently (74% and 75%, respectively), while only 12% of non-Orthodox Jews go to synagogue at least once a month. The report shows that 89% of Orthodox Jews and 93% of Christian evangelicals believe in God with absolute certainty, while only 34% of all other Jews share this belief.

On Israel, 84% of Orthodox Jews and 82% of evangelicals believe Israel was given to the Jewish people by God, while only 35% of non-Orthodox Jews hold this view.

This pattern also plays out on the political level. Orthodox Jews and Christian evangelicals share an affinity with the Republican Party (57% and 66%, respectively, support or lean toward the GOP), as opposed to a mere 18% of non-Orthodox Jews who back Republicans.

yes, nearly identical aside from that whole "Jesus, the pagan pig-god and his whore mother are boiling in excrement in Hell" thing. :oy2:

    From the Talmud...

Sanhedrin 43a[68] relates the trial and execution of a sorcerer named Jesus ("Yeshu" in Hebrew) and his five disciples. The sorcerer is stoned and hanged on the Eve of Passover.[69]

Sanhedrin 107[70] tells of a Jesus ("Yeshu") "offended his teacher by paying too much attention to the inn-keeper's wife. Jesus wished to be forgiven, but [his rabbi] was too slow to forgive him, and Jesus in despair went away and put up a brick [idol] and worshipped it."[71]

In Gittin 56b, 57a[72] a story is mentioned in which Onkelos summons up the spirit of a Yeshu who sought to harm Israel. He describes his punishment in the afterlife as boiling in excrement.[73][74]

Some scholars claim that the Hebrew name Yeshu is not a short form of the name Yeshua, but rather an acrostic for the Hebrew phrase "may his name and memory be blotted out" created by taking the first letter of the Hebrew words.[75]

In addition, at the 1240 Disputation of Paris, Donin presented the allegation that the Talmud was blasphemous towards Mary, the mother of Jesus, ("Miriam" in Hebrew) and this criticism has been repeated by many Christian sources.[76] The texts cited by critics include Sanhedrin 67a,[77] Sanhedrin 106a,[78] and Shabbath 104b.[79] However, the references to Mary are not specific, and some assert that they do not refer to Jesus' mother, or perhaps refer to Mary Magdalen.[80]

The implication is that the two groups are oh so similar. The same exact thing could be said of any group of "religious" people. You could find many similarities between hardline Muslims compared to Jews as well aside from Israel of course. That does not mean they are really anything like each other. The article should simply say that it is pointing out the obvious which is that conservatives (including orthodox Jewish minority) are very unlike their liberal counterparts (secular Jewish majority). No shit?

You are the idiot and apparently know nothing about true Christianity (Old Testament System under Law or New Testament under Grace) or modern "Judaism" which is Talmudic and bears almost zero resemblance to the ancient system.

If you think Jesus looked, spoke or acted anything like the "orthodox" Jews of today you are a fool.

Ditto similarities between hard core born again Christians and fundamental Muslims so there's that analogy too.

Jews and Muslims are much closer because they both choose to live under the Law, not Grace.

Under Grace, there is no eye for an eye. The Law is only the schoolmaster that leads to Grace.

I get it that as a radical christian you don't want to be associated with your radical fundamental counterparts (with an emphasis on "mental.":) So you are looking to embrace whichever fairy tale suits your purpose. And that's fine whatever you choose to think. Just realize that the majority of less radicalized, more moderate and pragmatic folks of most religions group all you fundamentals together as being off the wall. Perception is reality so it's all relative.

Considering Jesus spent a good deal of time correcting the Pharisees and other religious leaders about there completely erroneous understanding and application of the Law and the Scriptures (and He only ever speaks of "Scripture"), I'll bet He didn't much care what anyone's commentary was on a book written entirely about Him and under His divine guidance. What substitutes for "Judaism" now in a world away from anything resembling the sacrificial system of 2,000 years ago. It would probably be even less recognizable to the 1st Century Christians/Jews as most modern "churches". :coffee:
