This was one recent interview of Howard's that I actually liked.
This guy came off as so creative and a real artist, but after this Blurred Lines lawsuit I really lost all respect for him.
He was the producer (as well as a co writer) so the burden really fell on him and for him to be so blase about blatantly appropriating or stealing another artist's music, especially an artist like Marvin Gaye, made me sick. If you listen to Pharrell's testimony its obvious he is not an artist as much as a mimic. But to rip off Marvin Gaye, who should be the pinnacle to any black musician, is just low and I think he did because he knew he was dead.
Between this bullshit, between calling Kanye a genius or black rappers saying they were shocked by a frat house's use of the N word when they had repeatedly performed songs full of the N word for that frat and lyrics promoting rape culture, that whole genre of music can go suck it.
I have Kanye and rap in my library (work out music) but I will not give any more money or attention to those self-righteous phonies any more.

Williams stole the "Happy" video idea from a little known performance artist who posted her video on YouTube some time ago. Literally every frame of Williams "Happy" video was taken from hers. If I can track it down I'll post it. She decided against suing him.

sampling has been the keystone of rap music for the past forty years...intellectual property should be compensated...it protects new and old school artist...shalom

I saw that the Gaye children said they didn't plan to sue, but I just looked at the sheet music and boy, the songs are in fact very similar even in composition. I will post the side by side later - can't do on my phone.

No they did not. Pharrell Williams started one as a pre-emptive shot across their bow, that obviously backfired.
    Pretty fucking greedy and sinister.

sampling is different than stealing the beat or music.

Your comment is why this suit sets bad precedence. Billions of songs share the same time sig.

'Uptown Funk' may be similar, but not copied from Mo Day & the Time's 'Jungle Love'.
