i'm on amazon and i have "understanding exposure, third edition" by bryan peterson in my cart, as well as "nikon d5200 for dummies" (just to really learn the camera, itself, better). what other photography books would you consider required reading for a noob?

i'm also considering "digital landscape photography: in the footsteps of ansel adams," mostly because my photos are usually of landscapes or wildlife.

these are some pics i took today. it's frustrating because i can see the photo i want to take and then i see the photo i actually take and they're pretty far apart. (i'm not posting these thinking they're great, or even good...they're just the sorts of pics i like to take and want to learn more about):

"understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson is a must read. Anything by him is great.

Oops. Sorry, I didn't read that you'd already ordered Understanding Exposure. Never mind.

How are your photoshop skills? Many times you can create the picture you see in your mind using that valuable tool. Everybody does it, and it's not considered "cheating" at all

Also, these look a little soft. Did they look sharp in the viewfinder when you took them?

i reduced the image quality a bit when i exported them and uploaded them to imgur, so the resolution isn't as great as it would be if i kept them high quality. my bird pics are usually taken using my 70-300 mm lens fully extended to 300 mm, so the resolution is also reduced by that.

photoshop skills are just ok. when i upgrade my computer i'm going to get apple's aperture or adobe lightroom and learn how to post-process pics using one of those. right now i'm not doing much of anything to my pics other than take them and upload them to iphoto and crop them (another reason some look soft...massive cropping).

I was thinking more like the 'C'mon Dave, give me a break' from Unchained by Van Halen. :grad:
