I'm using Ps CC. Whenever I use the paintbrush or eraser, a weird thing happens. Say I set my paintbrush at 20, when I go in to paint, the area that is painted is a circle about twice as big as the paintbrush circle. Same with eraser. When I try to erase something, a lot more gets erased than just the circle.

I've googled and can't find a solution. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I tried to do a print screen to show it but the little circle doesn't copy.

Depends on the resolution of the file.

When you turn on the brush, a little circle appears. That is supposed to be the area that will be painted. Mine paints outside that little circle. I don't think that has anything to do with resolution, does it? It didn't used to do it.

The brush size number is determined by the number of pixels I believe. So if you are zoomed in 1:1 the brush appears larger and if you are zoomed out it appears smaller.

Just use the left or right brackets to adjust the brush size as needed.

Did you try selecting the option for a hard brush? I believe it stays within the circle when that is selected.

    look here goes into depth

I know how to adjust the brush size but it isn't behaving correctly. Here is a mockup of what I get. Say I set the brush at 64, the little white circle is all that should be painting. Otherwise, how can you accurately set the brush size?
