U.S. Marshals arrested a 45-year-old teacher, who is accused of having sex with a student in Arizona, in a Waikiki condo Tuesday. Deborah Hoshiyama, who is also known as Deborah Nicholson, is wanted for five counts of sexual conduct with a minor in Arizona. Federal officials initially said she was working a school teacher when she was arrested. The Department of Education said Voyager Charter School had submitted an application for Hoshiyama to start as a teacher on Nov. 7. But the application was on hold while the DOE checked on her. Hoshiyama is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship between Aug. 1, 2007-April 11, 2008 with a student, who was a minor. She was a teacher in Avondale in Maricopa County in Arizona. In October, a grand jury indicted her and an arrest warrant for Hoshiyama was issued by the Maricopa County Attorney's office, but she had left the state. Arizona U.S. marshalls tracked her to Honolulu, the Marshal's Service said. Members of a federal task force arrested her at 5:15 a.m. at an Ala Wai Boulevard condominium. Hoshiyama is being held pending an extradition hearing.
