Piers does get owned in this interview. I'll admit, I'm a lifetime member of the NRA. I just think the general publics fascination with "assault weapons" is ridiculous. To be honest, it wouldn't bother me if "assault weapons" - as defined by Clinton in 94, and Feinstein today - were banned. The problem I have is that there is really no difference between the definition of an assault weapon and my hunting rifle. I should clarify - the differences are largely aesthetic. In other words, my fear is that since the assault weapon and my hunting rifle have no difference other than how they appear, I can't help but think the next logical step would be to ban my hunting rifle. The meat and potatoes of the assault weapon and my hunting rifle are the same: they are both semi-automatic, and both have clips that you snap into the rifle. The difference is only that the assault weapon has a pistol grip, and a telescopic stock. Other than those few differences, they're the same gun. On top of that, assault weapons count for such a small % of gun deaths in this country, it is ludicrous to spend this much time debating and making them illegal. We need to focus on other issues if you want gun violence in this country to go down.

Jones comes off as unhinged, and in a time where people are afraid of lunatics having access to guns, doesn't do his cause any favors. Morgan did the right thing about allowing him to foam at the mouth and look insane. The far right will cheer Jones on, while anyone to the left of that is thinking, "Holy shit, that guy owns guns???"

I don't know about that. This Shapiro guy insists that Morgan not lump him in with Jones. A lot of people on Jones' website said Alex didn't do himself any favors with that appearance. So, the right wing is not lining up to support him, many are distancing themselves from him.

i agree, i think the point here is clips that hold a shitload of rounds. i don't think anyone would even try to ban hunting rifles, that'd be nuts (i'm generally anti-gun, FWIW, although i got no beef with guns for home protection, hunting, etc.). how many rounds does a hunter need? if someone's shooting at a deer or whatever and they need more than 6 shots to take it down, i think they need less bullets and more time at a range practicing.

For the record, here in Michigan, clips in our hunting rifles are not allowed to hold more than 5 bullets.

Americans need guns to stop the King of England from slapping them around. :grad:

Shapiro completely owned Morgan in that clip. Even if I agreed with what Morgan was saying I wouldn't want to. He's not a likable fella and he's really wearing out his welcome. I can't seem him lasting at CNN much longer.

Shapiro's stance is kind of silly, though: if shit goes completely fascist in the States, what's a few citizens with a few automatic rifles gonna do against the might of the US military?

    Nothing.

I think the only justifiable reason for civilian automatic weapon ownership is the exact opposite scenario; if the government disintegrates and shit goes "wild west" again.

Well the whole "THEY'LL TAKE URR HUNTIN' RIFLES!" is a scare tactic the NRA is using. That will never happen, it's just them trying to keep from having to make any concessions by scaring people into thinking all of their guns are going away, and tanks will be rolling down Main Street soon after.

Question is, will our military turn their guns on their own people?
Ask a few ex-soldiers if they would shoot the people they took oaths to protect.
A soldier once told me that there was a poll taken among military about this question and they discovered that 98% would not obey the order to turn their guns on civilians of their own country.
