No one on this site would ever use bit torrent!
Don't worry guys, we're in the clear.
i pirate like a mofo, Canada doesn't care about it
...good article. other people have been sued for this and the majority of them lose before they even get into court. im trying to find the article but i cant find it in the search. what happens is you get a warning things escalate if your ip keeps showing up then you get a list of everything that was downloaded. if you keep doing it after that some law group, forgot where theyre from sues thousands of people at once. most people paid iirc around 3500.00 to settle because once in court it went up and there were examples of people who tried to fight it but its expensive to litigate and the fines are more in court.
there was one lawyer that was known to have an argument to defend these broad sweeping suits but its probably been about 3 years since i read it. ill keep looking it might be in my email.
This is the paragraph that got me the most upset...
Most cyber-pirates are prosecuted in the nation's capital. More than 85,000 John Does are currently caught in ongoing litigation in the district's federal court, according to the EFF. Not only is D.C. the home court of Dunlap, Grubb and Weaver, it is also the jurisdiction of Judge Beryl Howell, who worked as a lobbyist for the RIAA from 2004 to 2009, during the peak of the organization's anti-piracy campaign.
How in the fuck is a judge allowed to rule on cases involving piracy when the fucking guy was a fucking lobbyist for piracy clampdowns? Is that not a conflict of interest?
...all of these internet providers should have refused to do this deed for the riaa, its a conflict of interest imo.
Dailytech is a shit site with very little technical knowledge.
How to DL how much you want at 100% speed.
NNTP server + SSL encryption. They can never see anything. If Torrent : use encryption.
The last 10 years I have DL over 200 terra and have never got a warning.
(I did get a waring when I used Kazaa. Universal threatened to cut of my broadband. )
Piracy hurts record/movie/game industry less then 5%. Corporations (like Howard) believes if someone DL a movie 2 million times = 2 million lost revenue. All real surveys shows that only 5% would have bought it.
One day the industry will understand that reasonable priced products that are easy to use sells. Itunes App store is a great evidence for it. Epic Games make more money on 2 dollar games then 60 dollar Xbox games. The same day everything is available for download, cheap, piracy will disappears.
Is that judge actually adjudicating any of these matters, though?
In February, Howell issued a ruling that is now frequently cited by pirate-chasers as proof that their tactics are valid. Howell shot down a request by the EFF, the ACLU, and Public Citizen, a national nonprofit consumer-advocacy organization, that she not issue subpoenas for the IP addresses of 1,062 John Does accused of downloading the children's movie Call of the Wild. Among other points, the judge asserted that the Does "cannot demonstrate any harm that is occurring to them" before their names are disclosed to the attorneys who are suing them.
Through a court spokesperson, Howell declined an interview request for this story, citing the fact that she is currently presiding over an ongoing John Doe case.
Where's the judicial oversight on this loon?
Doing that stuff without privacy protection software is like doing a Polish former prostitute/coke whore without using condoms.
Fuck these jews. When cassette tapes and VCR's first came out they were bitching about piracy then.
I don't really worry about it because most of the stuff I download is old stuff. All new movies, TV, and music sucks.
I've never received a letter, ever. Even if I did I would ignore it.
according to the way I understand the articles, a program called “MarkMonitor” will be used to ID isp numbers via connecting with a torrent app..
not through bittorrent traffic on your connection. therefore encrypting traffic is not enuf
which do you recommend?
Are users of file sharing sites like mediafire and depositfile effected by this? Or is it just torrents?
you have to use bittorrent for this.
