Howchie was the first name mentioned on Playboy.com's list of the best interviewers of all time - surprisingly their list isn't limited to radio, as Johnny Carson, Mike Wallace and other TV hosts were on the list. I expect a caller next week will just happen to mention this on the air with Stern. Too bad the list didn't mention Howard's inventions of asking guests about cock size, net worth and whether they do hash oil:

    http://www.playboy.com/articles/15-of-the-best-interviewers-of-all-time

"For more than 40 years, Stern has been infecting radio — both terresetrial and satellite — with giddy outrage. But all the while, he’s also been a penetrating radio journalist, getting those who sit in his studio to say things they never would, or should."

Howard # 1 of all time? Better than David Frost? Frost's Nixon interviews are historic.

Obviously, Playboy is trying to be edgy to get eyeballs.

Maybe Playboy is hoping they can tap into that massive Stern market that has been created in the wake of the "Revolution." Heck, if they can pull off 2% of his listening base to buy magazines that will make them hundred-aires.

What is the over/under as to when Howard brings this up on Monday (if he is working). I say he will bring it up in the first 30 minutes. I also predict Jon Hein will bring it up at least 5 times on the Wrap Up Show. "It's a testament to Howard because he is one of the best interviewers ever that doesn't get enough credit. Right Gary?"

Great a magazine that noone reads is highly rating a show that noone listens to. Perfect circle.

Sharing a list with primo assholes Katie Couric and Bryant Gumble, seems about right.

    • Projects own parental issues, insecurities, resentment and fear of dying onto guests
    • Ignores guests' answers to questions, or just answers (often incorrectly) for guests
    • Bases line of questioning on false rumors and errors listed in Wikipedia entries
    • Will not ask questions that could be uncomfortable for guests (did not ask Billy Joel about alcohol, depression and multiple car crashes; did not ask Madonna about disrespectful Photoshopped promotional images of Martin Luther King, Jr and Nelson Mandela, etc.)
    • Is unable to stray from interview bullet points because he typically has no prior awareness of his guest's life or career

Howard interrupts whenever a guest is about to say something interesting. He sucks as an interviewer.

Bump, it appears I made the egregious error of starting another thread on this topic, never fear that thread is gone.

    It's true
There was a sweet spot era when Howard was the best. Now it sucks but like 92-2000 he was just awesome on interviews asking shocking questions which were culturally ahead of the times
