Was thinking about getting a video game system as a present for my nephews this fall. Since I don't play video games myself, I don't know if one is better than the other. If the price is basically the same, which would you recommend? Also, are there any options/add-ons that you would consider absolutely essential?

    Thanks in advance.

(I put this in the Entertainment category because there was a South Park episode about this.)

I prefer Xbox personally. Many say the ps4 is the better choice.

My kids had a Wii when they were little and they loved it
Then they got an Xbox one and like it but they are saving to buy a PlayStation. They say it is alot better
So that's the scoop from a 12 and 14 year old and they probably know what's up

Ps4 if you want to play uncharted.

Xbox if you want to play halo or gears of war

Other than that its which controller you prefer

Expect a lot of weird responses from people that are too loyal and invested one way or another

Tell them it's not That much better but all comes down to exclusives.... if it's about the Sony exclusives, makes sense, otherwise not worth it.

The correct answer is the one the kids want. Float some hints out there, maybe have his parents find out. It's going to be what his friends have so he can play with them.

Our kids ended up being pretty loyal to the XBox line, but they got their first one several years ago and I'm sure in some respects they're just sticking now with what's familiar to them. They're by no means looking to become professional video gamers. Once your nephews build up their library of games, they might appreciate having an external hard drive for increased memory capacity. Again, my only experience is with the XBox system, but I know if they're trying to save their progress on a handful of different games, the built in HDD fills up pretty quick.

    PC......... the only choice.

but I have a Xbox One and I'm planning on getting the new Nintendo NX system when it releases.

for a younger kid wait until the NX is available. Buying any of the currently available systems right now is a waste of money. Xbox , Nintendo and Sony are all releasing more powerful hardware within the next 12 months.

I'm a Halo guy so its Xbox one.

Xbox One has a good Movies and TV app where any movie files you might have on your computer will play wirelessly to your TV with a simple right click on "play to Xbox one".

Have both a Xbox and PS4 and use my PS4 way more, better choice of games. But new more powerful systems are coming within a year for both companies. Xbox has one coming within a month or two.

I own both and they're quite comparable. The PS4 has the hardware advantage while the Xbox has the superior online gaming experience.

    Both advantages are negligible, though.

After Xbox had that whole "red ring of death" deal go on

It amazes me why any one would buy another system from them

    Just my opinion

Make sure whatever you buy you pick up an extra controller. Also make sure you pick up a few games. Nothing worse than getting a video game system with no games! If it's gonna stretch the budget maybe let their parents or other uncles/aunts, grandparents know what system you bought and they can pick up a game or two.

Also folks these days love to play online so a 6 month or year sub to the PSN or Xbox live or whatever Nintendo has would be nice.

The Xbox Slim that's coming out will not be more powerful. That rumor was shot down by the powers that be at Microsoft.

I have a PS4 and the XB1 and use the PS4 way more. The XB1 is pretty much a paperweight at this point. Looking forward to Gears 4 so I can finally blow the dust off of it.
