I think right now Pence is waiting to see if he can somehow take over as the Republican nominee. I think that is why he has backed off Trump a bit. He wants to see how this plays out. But if that doesn't happen I think he will stay on the ticket. He'll just wait until things calm down to go business as usual.

If what you say is true he will be fired by morning. Trump plays second fiddle to no one.

Can he be fired? This is all uncharted waters man, geez

Yeah it's hard to say. I'm wondering what kind of behind the scenes discussions have been happening between Pence and the RNC. They must have talked about this. I'm not sure he can get rid of Pence at this point. I think Pence would have to choose to quit. If Trump got rid of Pence, it would definitely be all over for Trump.

    I found this

"About the only thing Trump could do now is ask Pence politely to leave. This actually happened in the 1972 campaign when the Democratic candidate discovered that his running mate (whom he barely knew), Thomas Eagleton, suffered from clinical depression and had received electroshock treatments and Thorazine. Eagleton was asked to withdraw and did so. McGovern then chose someone else, but there had to be a special session of the Democratic National Committee to make it happen; he couldn’t simply choose anyone he wanted at that point because the convention was over."

Ive never heard of anyone in history writing in the VP for the President at the ballot. How would that work, that still goes to Trump right? or? what a mess.

I'm also wondering to what degree Pence's statement and him backing off from Trump was discussed with Trump's people. How much of what he said and did was coming from Trump's people or is this a decision Pence made on his own. If Pence went out on his own to denounce Trump, Trump will never forgive him. But I suspect the response was agreed upon.

I think that the ballot would have to be changed. You can write in someone who isn't on the ballot but I'm not sure that switching roles for someone who is already on the ballot would be allowed.
