From last week, "The Dutch took over the Congo"
Listening now. Lazareth was epileptic and an old lady used most of the dead sea scrolls as firewood.
The sneaky ass squinty eyed Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
"I don't know" after every stupid fucking thing he says is really annoying.
Jay on Robert E. Lee
(paraphrasing) "You know, Robert E. Lee was one of the big drivers behind trying to keep black people down after the war"
Meanwhile, back in the real world, this quote from a letter from lee to his wife before the war
... In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution, is a moral & political evil in any Country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages. I think it however a greater evil to the white man than to the black race, & while my feelings are strongly enlisted in behalf of the latter, my sympathies are more strong for the former. The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially & physically. The painful discipline they are undergoing, is necessary for their instruction as a race, & I hope will prepare & lead them to better things. How long their subjugation may be necessary is known & ordered by a wise Merciful Providence.
—Robert E. Lee, to Mary Anna Lee, December 27, 1856
And also from the Wikipedia page on Lee
The evidence cited in favor of the claim that Lee opposed slavery included his direct statements and his actions before and during the war, including Lee's support of the work by his wife and her mother to liberate slaves and fund their move to Liberia, the success of his wife and daughter in setting up an illegal school for slaves on the Arlington plantation, the freeing of Custis' slaves in 1862, and, as the Confederacy's position in the war became desperate, his petitioning slaveholders in 1864–65 to allow slaves to volunteer for the Army with manumission offered as a reward for outstanding service.
Lee repeatedly expelled white students from Washington College for violent attacks on local black men, and publicly urged obedience to the authorities and respect for law and order
Yes, his stories are great. I find it amusing that he insists on lecturing the listeners nearly every episode on some aspect of history, and almost without fail, gets some of it wrong.
It's getting old now along with the "get rid of him" and the dial tone.
The only time I don't like it is when he manages to damage someone's reputation with his errors, even if they're already dead. I really wish I could remember more of them, but my memory sucks.
Yeah, I find that infuriating too.
I wish he world stick to his personal stories, loonie guests, busting Christina/Steve's balls and leave his dopey political and other personal agenda stuff in the lock box with his SS check.
was the show live today? or was it just live for the first hour?
What's with Steve's voice, it sounds like he swallowed a Kazoo. The shows quality is getting so bad technically, it 's like they're using a garage sale Karaoke machine for Steve and Jay falls off all the time. I only keep Sirius for Jay's show, but I've about had it . It kills me that all the money goes to the Bernie Madoff of radio and he doesn't even show up.
Just like old Howard, I listen to Jay's show wishing I could jump in and correct/argue with him and add to what they're talking about. I'd know when to keep quiet, making me more qualified than Shuli.
I almost hate that the Friday shows are on-demand now, because before that I never caught it and missed hearing Shuli do bad impressions and bad jokes when you're trying to listen to what the guest is saying.
Jay opened the show today with one of his dopey political rants so I just dumped out of it. I'm looking for lols and entertainment and not interested in moronic political discussions between JT, Christina and Steve.
The politics has been in high gear lately. I did exactly the same. Switched it off today about a minute in.
But on yesterday's replay, according to Jay, in some states they fine you $100,000 and send you to prison for 10 years if you perform an abortion OR have one performed on you. Dirty Republicans!
I was also shocked to learn that there are NO FISH left in the gulf of Mexico where Jay fishes. Because of BP. And that all Republicans want "zero restrictions" on off-shore drilling.
He also informed listeners that he hates "Rich white businessmen". No word on rich women or rich minorities.
he said that?
i guess the "low countries" are all the same to him. racist.
