The friends and family of a dead Denver woman are protesting the last-minute decision of a funeral home director to ban her funeral because a memorial video showed lesbians kissing.

Vanessa Collier, who died Dec. 30, was seen on the video kissing her girlfriend. Family members said the funeral was moved across the street after the pastor viewed the tape and said it was offensive.

Demonstrators stood outside the New Hope Ministries mortuary Tuesday, carrying signs that declared "You will not find Jesus at New Hope but you will find hypocrisy."

Mourners began arriving about 10 a.m. Saturday, said Jose Silva, a friend of the deceased. "At 10:15, the pastor said 'Due to technical difficulties, the funeral is being moved,''' he said, according to KMGH-TV.

The casket was transferred across the street to Newcomer Funeral Home and was presided over by chaplain Gary Rolando.

New Hope Ministries refunded the family's $400 payment on Monday. The loved ones had been giving the option of editing out the video kiss, but declined.

[IMG] Lance Hernandez/7 News A Colorado minister refused to hold a memorial service on Saturday for a lesbian woman, family and friends said.
"They didn't want to edit her life," Silva told the station.

Rolando said the family then asked if the service could be held at his facility.

"As a result, it was a very difficult day," he said. "We had to call the pall bearers … it was a logistical nightmare, but was handled as professionally as I've ever seen."

The family wants an apology. A woman who answered the phone at New Hope said the pastor was not available, the station reported.
