Now it costs twice as much to be a sucker. :jj:

(AP) DES MOINES, Iowa - Powerball lottery organizers are betting that bigger jackpots will entice more people to play, but gamblers are going to have to dig deeper into their wallets to try their luck.
Tickets for the multistate game are doubling in price to $2 beginning Jan 15. While the odds of winning one of the game's giant jackpots also are improving, those in charge of the lottery are gambling that people are willing to pay more for the hope of becoming a millionaire in a down economy.

I love it when state governments that operate a lotto have the gall to be righteous about laws against casino gambling. Running the ultimate ripoff numbers game on the stupid is great (It's for the schools!), but I'm a degenerate for wanting to play poker.

OK, I admit I buy one or two when it's like $200M, but that's it.

This. I'm guessing there's a lot of filters that money goes through before it hits the "schools".

It generates so much money for schools that the athletics departments have to go to soft drink companies to buy scoreboards. :rolleye:

Fuck that shit. I will gladly throw away $1 on a chance on winning millions on occasion but not $2.
