Anyone else hear the promo for this? You'd think it was the greatest literary accomplishment in history. Dramatic music, followed by an announcer referring to the book as "groundbreaking" and making "publishing history". Howard can't do anything without lying and exaggerating about it's quality and significance, no wonder he's considered a total buffoon and a laughing stock in the entertainment industry.

This depresses me, I remember when that book came out. What I wouldn't give to go back to 93. Stern doesn't even resemble the guy who put out that book at this point, either, better to have a funeral than an anniversary special.

I did hear it - with Howard droning on and on about that moldy book. He keeps torturing us with his ancient achievements.

To be fair, it was a bestseller and the scenes at the book signings were crazy and (maybe) unprecedented. It was a very big deal at the time.

But I agree, it's 20 years later, so WGAS, WGAF.

20 years ago, he shuts down half the streets in Manhattan. If he did a book signing now, it would be MaryAnn, Bobo, High Pitch and the 12 losers from that Mooski superfan Facebook page waiting in line. :jj:

Good point but I would read it. It would be great for the Howard forum. He's too lazy now though.

How do you celebrate a book in which a large majority of its content would not be allowed to be read on air in the present day pc stern show?

Was there really anything remarkable or groundbreaking about the book itself though? I remember starting to read it once and not bothering to finish because it wasn't that interesting or well-written. The response to the book signings in the NYC area was big but so was any local appearance by Howard during those years.

I enjoyed the book, but I really hated the show around the time of the movie. Every fucking show was just hyping the movie. That was the beginning of the end for the show.

Using the show to hype both the book and the movie non-stop definitely gave Howard a huge advantage and inflated the sales numbers.

The part of the commercial that pisses me off is Gary talking about the amount of time "we" put in to writing the thing. Was this a group project? I enjoyed the book but it was a light reading piece, the kind of thing one person could have penned in a week. Hell, Steven King puts out several a year.
