Its not a bad movie....of course everything Paul Giamatti has accomplished is Howards doing. Anyway I've listened to the show prior to the movie coming out and they were banding about 100 million is US Dollars, I think it did about 40 million, A huge disappointment wasn't it? How did Howard spin his way out of it?

The budget was about $20,000,000 and it made about $42,000,000 in U.S. Box office. Then it had $18,000,000 in DVD rentals. Then you have DVD purchases(more millions) and movie sells to TV. A clear big money winner for a small Howard Stern movie.

It was a modest success, you can't really rip him for it but there's a reason his film career didn't take off afterward (and we've yet to see Miss America).

It was a success based on the budget and box office haul, but it was far from a big hit. It was 56th highest grossing movie of 1997 behind movies that were considered big bombs like The Peacemaker, Alien Resurrection, and Speed2.

Howard showed enough to be in more B movies where budgets were in the $15-20 million range, but he was not a big box office draw. That is why rumors of him being the Scarecrow in a Batman movie that was never going to happen with or without Stern was Buckwald created bullshit. He was never going to get good movie gigs based on Private Parts.

I remember the video store I used to go to had a cardboard cutout of Howard naked covered by a building with VHS copies in front of it (for sale), and after about 6 months they were practically giving them away (the owner was a big THSS fan and thought they would sell like crazy, but ended up bundling them with free Goobers or something like that). I live in a really conservative area that hated Stern, though, so I can't chalk it all up to the merits of the movie. Still funny, though.

The production budget was 28 million and it grossed just over 41 million in theaters. By the time the theaters and distributer took their cut it was probably in the red by 8 million dollars. USA Network paid 7 million for the rights to play it. DVD and VHS sales numbers are harder to determine, but even if they totaled a million or two, the profit would only be a few million dollars. All totaled, the movie may have made a profit of 5 million, probably less. Not such a good showing for the King of All Media with 20 million fans.

The spin is it was the #1 movie at the box office the weekend it opened, regardless of what the actual $$ count was. He'll pull the same schtick with AGT. Viewership is down in the key demographic, but it was the #1 show that night. :dontknow:
