Does anyone know the significance of Howard yelling out "Hey-ooo" and then Fred repeats it? It seems to happen randomly, but I'm listening to a show now from 2006, and during Robin's news, she mentions Pennsylvania twice, and each time she says it, he yells hey-oo. Anyone know why? Or is it just a random thing?

    I'm guessing it's a reference to Ed McMahon's catchphrase.

On The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson Ed McMahon use to say that phrase sometimes after Johnny dropped a joke. Then Saturday Night Live would spoof the Tonight Show with Dana Carvey playing Johnny and Phil Hartman as Ed. Both of their impressions were exaggerated versions of the real guys. When Phil would play Ed he would often use that phrase. Howard and Fred must have picked up on it at some point and worked it into the show. Kind of like how Howard stole the "Hey Now" line from The Larry Sanders Show.

No, it's heyoo, and I know it's an Ed McMahon thing, just didn't know why he says it when he does, it seems weird and random
