As long as he's losing teeth, give him a little cash. Even if he already knows, it adds some whimsy to his day.

I never did it, actually--I'm just guessing

I never suggested Santa or the Easter Bunny were real either

If it's not a tradition in your house then that is fine. Parents can do what they see fit. Personally, I loved the fact that my family played up Santa Claus. It was very exciting for me as a child. One year though, I accidentally saw my grandfather putting together a bike after I was supposed to be in bed. The next morning, the bike's tag said it was from Santa. That's how I found out. It didn't crush me or anything. I figured, who cares who the bike was from? I got a bike! :nutz:

I also received quarters in the morning if I didn't pee the bed. :D

I think we kept doing it until they lost all of their baby teeth. By the end, I don't think it was a big secret that we were funding the tooth fairy.

Irrationality has no place in child rearing.
