I'm thinking of listing my house, and have a real estate agent coming in soon to assess it for me. My hardwood floors have taken some wear and tear over the last 5 years, and I gotta buff them up.

Is there an easy fix for this? Can I do it myself, or do I have to hire somebody?

Rent a floor sander (orbital ,not drum) and redo the floors . Put some good floor stain/polyurethane on and you are good to go . A solid weekend of work but they will look like new.

Will that pull out or at least hide scratches?

Kidding me? I have 2 little boys, a dog and a cat - mopping happens at least twice a damn day.

I'm not a fan of splinters in my ass......... ;)

We just sold our old house.

Let your agent see your house as is first.

Your agent should have a list of fixer-uppers who can work on the cheap for you and save you money as well as time.
So.. wait till your agent tells you what needs to be done & then ask if they have recommendations of people who can do it for you faster & cheaper.

Our real estate agent knew certain people who worked on the cheap to make minor repairs and stuff and to CLEAN the floors, touch-up paint, & things we didn't have time to take care of.

Short term is to just polish them up; long term ( if the floors don't have large gouges or chunks of wood missing ) would be to sand, maybe stain, and then seal with clear.

Hell yeah, I started in the 2 spare rooms so I can learn what I needed to do to get better before starting on the main floors.
