    Batman v Superman rated R on blu-ray

The massive of success of 20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool at the box officehas left many comic book movie fans wondering if we’ll be seeing more R-rated superhero films on the horizon. Today, it looks like we’ve got confirmation that a pretty big one is on the way! Per FilmRatings.com, the MPAA has officially had Zack Snyder‘s Batman v Superman rated R. There’s a bit of a catch there, however, as the film will be released in theaters with a PG-13 rating. The Batman v Superman rated R cut is being held for an upcoming Blu-ray edition titled the Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition. The R rating was given for the extended cut’s “sequences of violence.”

Zack Snyder has, meanwhile, debuted a new still from the film via Twitter. Check it out in full in the gallery viewer below!

In the film, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante, fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, joined by Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film. Jason Momoa will also be making an appearance as Aquaman.

I wonder if this isnt a confirmation of the earlier reports that the test screenings didn't go well: the studios are already telling people they should wait for the DVD

    I'd say so.

And if it's being released theatrically as a PG-13 movie, then it's a PG-13 movie. Adding a few extended action scenes could never make it a consistent, coherent and authentic R rated movie in the way that Deadpool is.

it's basically the worst of everyone's fears for the lesson the studios are going to get from Deadpool's success.

Someone phone-up Nolan stat and tell him to go re-cut his Batman dailies so The Dark Knight Trilogy can be re-released with an R rating.

    I think you nailed it.

Whereas Deadpool was intended to be a true R-rated movie from its inception, I can easily see a whole slew of studio suits starting to instruct their producers to hastily fabricate some inorganic, incongruous R rated scenes and cobble them on to a movie for which they were never intended. I suspect the result will come off as forced and gratuitous and stick out like a sore thumb in the process.

This is what WB always does with its superhero properties: blindly jump on whatever trend looks hot.

They've been doing this at least since the 70s. Sometimes they get lucky (Superman jumping on Star Wars, Batman on Blade). But as often as not its a mess where they shoehorn a style onto a character just because they think that's the trend (the aborted Burton Superman, Singer's Superman, Green "Iron Man" Lantern, Schumacher's Batman).

Say what you will about Marvel but they generally try to keep the core of what makes their characters work while updating the material for modern times.

I haven't seen it, so I'll withhold judgement until then. Or I could decide it sucks without having seen it and talk out of my ass like everyone else. :coffee:

I hate reactionary Hollywood, and while this story might be false, you can bet your bottom dollar that they are trying to gussie up Suicide Squad for some Rated R goodness.
