What more needs to be said, NBC was up 21% from last year in a falling market, AGT was a dominant #1 with the 8PM repeat coming in at #3. The power of Stern!

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 8/14/13
    NBC: +21
    , CW: +12, ABC: + 5, CBS: no change, Fox: -10

    ———-

Note: The following labels of “winners” and “losers” are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. As always, the overnights are your first look at the ratings and a precursor to what could lie ahead.

    ———-

    -Winners:
“Big Brother” (CBS), “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (CW), “America’s Got Talent” (NBC)

    -Tired:
“So You Think You Can Dance” (Fox)

    -Blah:
    “Extant” (CBS)

    -Losers (excluding repeats):
    “Motive” (ABC)

    ———-

    Ratings Breakdown:
Summer mainstays “Big Brother” and “America’s Got Talent” were on the map, with “AGT” on NBC topping the night with a 6.6 rating/11 share in the household overnights from 9-10 p.m. and “Big Brother” first in the 8 p.m. hour with a 4.4/ 8. Both were on par from one week earlier, and “AGT” year-to-year increased by 14 percent (versus a 5.8/10 on 8/14/13). “Big Brother” was consistent from one year earlier. See you both next season…and beyond.

Second behind “Big Brother” from 8-9 p.m. was a repeat of “America’s Got Talent” at a 4.0/ 7, followed by the first half of fading “So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox (2.9/ 5), repeats of ABC sitcoms “The Middle” (2.7/ 5) and “The Goldbergs” (2.6/ 4), and CW combo “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (1.4/ 3) and a repeat of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” (1.4/ 2). Worth positively noting for week three of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” was growth of 15 percent from one week earlier (1.3/ 2 on Aug. 6), and that 1.3 translated into 1.45 million viewers and a 0.5 rating/2 share among adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day data).

Comparably, “Penn & Teller” combined with the “Whose Line?” encore was 40 percent above a repeat of “Arrow” on the year-ago evening (1.0/ 2 on 8/14/13). For The CW on a summer Wednesday, consider “Penn & Teller” a “winner.”

Second behind “America’s Got Talent” from 9-10 p.m. was a repeat of “Criminal Minds” on CBS (3.2/ 5), followed by two repeat episodes of “Modern Family” on ABC (avg. 2.8/ 5), the second half of “So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox (2.6/ 4) and an encore of “The 100” on The CW (0.4/ 1). Overall, “So You Think You Can Dance” averaged a 2.7/ 5 from 8-10 p.m., which was 10 percent below two episodes (repeat and original) of “MasterChef” on the year-ago evening (avg. 3.0/ 5 on 8/14/13).

At 10 p.m., older skewing freshman drama “Extant” on CBS won the hour, with a 4.0/ 7 in the overnights and growth of 21 percent out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Criminal Minds” (3.3/ 5). But “Extant” is certainly not the new summer scripted hit CBS was hoping for and there is no reason to expect a second season.

Next in the hour was NBC’s on-the-fence “Taxi Brooklyn” (#2: 3.2/ 6), which slipped by nine percent week-to-week, followed by sophomore ABC dud “Motive” at a typical last place 2.3/ 4.

    IT DOESN'T MATTA!
Lots of senior citizens and little kids watched it. The 18-49 demo is not important. Most of them watch it on their iPads, phones, and things of that nature. (Just saving Sperm68 some time so she doesn't have to spew the usual bullshit)

I honestly don't care what the ratings of that train wreck are.
It just shows what a nation of retards I live in.
And just because you keep saying "everyone loves Howard stern" doesn't make it true.

Even if we give Stern68 and the wigged wonder the benefit of the doubt what is this, the FIRST WEEK that wihgy has moved the needle in 3 seasons. Yeah, that's a great accomplishment for Wiggy

Everyone doesn't love Howard, the 40 or so that don't have at least seemed to find each other.

You're saying there are about 40 people here that don't love Wiggy anymore? (At one time most of us did)

The accomplishment is that Howard has maintained this show for 3 seasons and even moved it upward in a genre that has seen 30-40% drops and complete failures like Simon Cowell and X-Factor, NBC was smart enough to hire the true X-Factor

The editors of Social Life and Hamptons would agree with you, they'd have Beth on the cover every month if they could.

So Big Brother was number one in the key demo and AGT had the most viewers overall. Now which indicator is the most important when looking at ratings?

Hahaha, the AGT repeat had nearly as many viewers as the first run Big Brother at 8:30, notice how AGT's numbers climb all night while BB's trail off, the people are staying tuned to hear what Howard's going to say next!
