I haven't been to the movies since Inception... Dark Knight before that.

Anyway, I've obviously yet to see a 3d new release. Anyone care to share the cliff notes on the Real3d vs Imax experience? Thinking about going to check out Avengers and Prometheus soon.

    TIA

If the movie is shot in IMAX ie. the Dark Knight Rises, go see it in IMAX
otherwise its pretty much the same

IMAX is just a really big screen that stretches from the floor to the ceiling

I don't go to movies anymore. Haven't been to a theater in over 10 years because people are rude and annoying.

3d isn't that big a deal imo. Most of them are actually shot in 2d and converted afterwards. Apparently the 3d cameras are huge and hard to work with so most producers opt to shoot in 2d and convert. I've yet to see one actually shot in 3d but I have not been impressed with any of the 2d converted movies I've seen.

    That's why I was asking.

I guess I'm confusing IMAX with the old Omni (?) style screens where it was near vertical seating and a curved screen around the theater... like your looking in to a vertical cereal bowl. I remember seeing some rock climbing movie on that in the late 80s in Chicago.

Sounds like IMAX is winning so far.

I saw Prometheus in Real D...it was excellent. It was shot in 3D, so the depth was very natural looking...

The best 3D movies are the CGI ones such as Toy Story 3

    Avatar was fantastic though
