I wanna get this a bit early so I'm starting my shopping now. There is an existing metal box fireplace but it is about 7% efficient. I'd rather have a wood burning stove but since there is already a fireplace (brick with a very nice mantel) I might as well go that route. :toptip:

Vermont casting. The one I had was bulletproof. No dust in the house and the most efficient wood burner I've ever owned.

I just looked online and they must not make the mocel we had anymore. It was a catalytic model. Both of the two they have listed on their web site are non catalytic.

Edited the title and original posting. What I thought was an insert is actually a metal box, zero clearance fireplace. :dontknow:

That's gonna be a big project to rip that out and put a new one in. Also, the boxes are so small on the ZC wood burning fireplaces that you are gonna be hard pressed to find something that will fit inside it and throw decent heat... In other words.. You're fucked.

I always liked gathering, splitting, and seasoning wood. It's good outside work when there's a little chill in the air.

We just had 15 ash trees cut down so I'm set for firewood for a bit starting next winter. Pellet burners are nice but I like the option to burn "real wood". I use the compressed wood bricks......like pellets but "bricks".

Also, I like the minor workout of splitting/cutting firewood. :dontknow:

When I poked around and discovered it wasn't a masonry fireplace but a ZC I did some quick checking at some of the manufacturers and it seems as though mine is pretty large so finding one to fit shouldn't be an issue. :toptip:
