My dad always had guns, and he taught me to shoot (though I haven't done it it years) but I'd never considered getting one myself.

Well, in light of some recent incidents in the city where I work, the man said he'd feel much more comfortable if I had one and kept it with me (got a license to carry). Not to mention the fact that I also bartend, and often close the bar alone.

I said something to my shop mates and they agreed that a piece in the shop is something they'd welcome.

As of now all I carry is a stun-gun.

Anyone here carry a gun? What is your advice on buying/keeping/carrying one?
If I got one I'd lean toward a small .38.
Also keep in mind I have a child part-time.

None of those would be too much for my lilly white wrists?
    In the past I've shot my dad's 22, his colt 45 and a 357.

Unless you're planning to spend at least a few hours a month at the range practicing you have no business getting a CCW. :grad:

Your part time child should be taught the proper operation of the firearm as well.

Also, go to the gun shop and pick up every handgun in your price range. See what feels good and natural in your hand. Rent each one of the ones you like and put 3-4 magazines through them. You will be able to answer your own question as to which is the best one for you.

For a ccw you'll need nothing more than a 9mm
Best thing to do is go to the gun club/range and get your hands on and put lead down range.

Find a rental range and shoot a few before you buy. I do think a .38 snubby is perfect gun to be carried a lot and shot a little.
