I've never had a successful relationship with someone who was a friend first. Always ended with someone feeling really hurt and the other one feeling regretful for basically ruining a good friendship.

Husband and I got involved almost immediately after meeting each other.

I'm a little confused by your premise...how can you be anything except strangers when you first meet?

My wife said a woman knows right away if she wants to sleep with a guy. If you enter the friend zone, you ain't gonna get any.

I need something in between. I knew his whole family personally except him. It was kind of weird. One night I just went up to him in the bar we hung out in and I introduced myself and he acted like he didn't know me .
Our 25th dating anniversary is next week

Didn't know exactly how to phrase it, so I gave a shoot out to my man Bowie by using one of his song titles.

The point is, were you friends before getting romantically involved or did you meet the person and start a romantic relationship right away?

This is true. Although sometimes the woman wants more and he won't exit the friend zone for whatever reason (another relationship, age difference, distance, etc.), but he later opens himself up to giving her more. I guess there's always drunk and got with my friend scenarios too, but I will stick to relationships for this thread.

I always feel weird about those friends-first relationships. Usually there's some settling going on.

    Strangers for me.
My wife and I met at work. She and I rode the freight elevator together occasionally and the tension was palpable- for me anyway. I figured I didn't stand a chance with her- she's quite the knockout and every guy there wanted to date her. I am very shy and hardly could speak to her without mumbling something unintelligible.
She actually asked me out... After I woke up from falling on the floor from being dumbfounded, I accepted and we've been together ever since.

And for the record- I hope the friend's first thing works too. I think we all want nothing but the best for @LaserTilt ! What a sweet love story that is.

Based on your wife's response - I'd keep an eye on her if I were you. Sounds like she's doing a lot of "assessing".

Oh - I feel bad now - I'm sorry for your loss

What was it evil Dave said, "Open brain - close mouth". Or something like that.
