I live in Chicago ( Downtown Area ). I travel a lot on a weekly basis and pay ridiculous rent for being at home for 10 to 15 days ( maximum ) Most of my friends whom I know, left the city and moved into the suburbs or relocated.

I am now planning to move to Dallas cheaper and a quite environment.

My only problem is the thought of moving away from Chicago and going south.

i know, i will save some money and I have some good friends who have moved to Dallas. Suggestions please?

I guess it depends on what you like to do. If you like going out and enjoying the things that a city like Chicago has to offer, I think you will find Dallas to be boring and depressing. However if you are more of a homebody, maybe you'll be fine there.

I've personally never been to either city, but personally, I could never live in Dallas, from the little I know about it. Chicago sounds good to me from what I've heard. I wouldn't like the winters though.

Dallas is a viable option only for its proximity to all airports because of my job.

Are you single or coupled? Dallas would be great for a family, in particular.

I am very familiar with Texas and Dallas. Altho the cost of living is is cheaper, living in the South is a whole nuther way of life. Have you visited Dallas and spent some time there?
If you do move, I would suggest renting for a time before buying to see if you like it and can adjust.

my brother has lived in Dallas for more than 10 yrs. only because of his 2nd wifes job.
he is already retired,as soon as she retires they are out of there.
one thing, the recession never hit there.

OMG...from air conditioned house, to air conditioned car, to air conditioned grocery store (all hail the Piggly Wiggly!) back to air conditioned house..That sums up summer in the South.

If you like living in Chicago just try to find a neighborhood more suited to your lifestyle although it sounds like if youre never home the downtown is best anyways. I've lived in Riverside, Berwyn, Chicago (Beverly and Wicker Park) and even Naperville for a year....

...seattle. we have an international airport with links and direct fights around the world. it will cost more than texas maybe, but depending on your real estate budget whether you buy or rent there are really nice areas to live in. one drawback if you hit the freeways at commute times you will hate it.

It sure does! You can't even enjoy a swim because the water is like a hot tub. It can also be a culture shock.
