So the wife and I have decided it's time to have kids, and we've been talking about the shows we grew up on. I don't know much about Sesame Street after the 80's, but I know Elmo took over at some point and the rest of it took a backseat.

This is how awesome the show used to be. I'm pretty sure watching it 3 times a day had some kind of influence on my musical tastes now too.

I had to sit through an episode of Sesame Street while taking care of my nephew, that skit was far better than any of the crap I saw.

Toddlers and babies love very grating crap, after all the U.S. Tortured Arab prisoners by playing Barney music during the War on Terrorism. So it only makes sense that Elmo would take over while Adults enjoy the Cookie Monster and Oscar.

the weird family down the street couldn't even watch sesame street because the parents thought The Count and Oscar were negative influences. kids turned out to be total crackhead scumbags. the lesson is don't shelter your children too much, I guess

To make it Stern related because he licks Billy's asshole and probably made fun of Marlee Matlin's voice at some point.

You mean when Maria was a young piece of ass?

Yeah, I remember it. My sister's kids were preschoolers when the show was in its early days.

If you watch the documentary, 'I Am Big Bird,' they mention how SS used to be geared towards preschool kids. Then, they decided they wanted to go after toddlers, and that's when they brought in Elmo. Carol Spinney didn't seem too happy about that...

Really doesn't make much sense to me, Toddlers are so young they should still be playing with toys not parked in front of a TV. But I guess anything to keep them from destroying shit is a good thing.

This is a good one too. The ending is straight out of left field.

Monk and I just had this conversation a few days ago!

I'm going to see if I can "buy" some early episodes of Sesame Street for my daughter. It was so much better when I was a kid.
