The guy who won was Hillbilly Jack, I think. Whatever happened to him? Did he ever come back?

That guy was awful. The guy in the wheelchair should have won.

I'm pretty sure he was just an actor playing the part for the bit.

Yeah. He was something of a local celebrity in his hometown before his Stern appearance - or at least that's the way his website made it sound.

Shortly after his victory, his website was loaded with t-shirts, CDs and other assorted merch. You could tell they (Jack's "team" - not Howard) had been planning this for a while and were taking full advantage of his slightly-raised notoriety. Total scam artist.

He called into the show some months later, upset that they weren't using him for anything - sounding legitimately upset. Howard said they really didn't have anything for him, but to be patient..

Gary once mentioned him. He said Hillbilly Jack was a fraud. He took the prize money but refused to ever appear on the show again.

But he called in, wanting to return.

I remember Stern hanging up almost instantly.

But how is it a "scam" if he legitimately won?

Opposed to Stern's usual scams, of course.

I mean he wasn't really a dumb redneck burnout. It was a put-on; he was playing a character.

The veil was slightly lifted when, during the contest, Howard implied that Hillbilly Jack didn't have proper schooling. Jack seemed almost insulted and said that no, he actually graduated college and had a degree in botany or biology or something.

I imagine Wiggys eventually going to dissolve the whack pack per his "rebranding", by the end of the year. By next year no matter what he's doing He will have morphed into Oprah.

He had a college degree. That had to play into the decision. Howard didn't want another wackpacker begging for money. That's why wheel chair guy didnt win. IMHO. :coffee:

Hillybilly Jack was never going to work out. First off, all the good wackpackers developed organically and secondly, the contest was in the post Artie era so there was no one funny left there to make a wacko interesting enough to be a wackpacker.

He was never heard from again because the staff didn't know what to do with him.
