New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie could face impeachment following the early testimony in the Bridgegate scandal trial, according to NBC 4 New York. Unnamed members of the New Jersey Assembly are reported to be looking into how to proceed after prosecutors this week said Christie knew about the lane-closing scheme on the George Washington Bridge in 2013. A committee chairman said “clearly” Christie could face a charge of obstruction of justice. The chances, the legislator said, were about 50-50 that the assembly would pursue Christie’s impeachment. That decision would be up to Democratic Speaker Vincent Prieto, followed by a process initiated by the assembly’s judiciary committee and several other votes.

Interesting. The article also says "One committee chairman who did not want to be named said "clearly obstruction of justice" would be an obvious charge against the governor."
I guess that means criminal charges are a possibility?

From what i can gather from a comment.

Like in the federal government, New Jersey requires a simple majority of the Assembly for impeachment and 2/3 of Senators for conviction and removal. The Democrats have 65% of the Assembly seats, so impeachment wouldn't be a problem. They have 60% of Senate seats, so they would need 3 Republicans to vote for conviction.

Given that Christie would be succeeded by a, as far as we know, scandal-free Republican Lieutenant Governor who can run for reelection, I don't think getting those three Senators would be hard.

    It's about freaking time

Maybe we'll be smart enough to elect someone who will make marijuana legal, not to mention cut the property tax by at least 78%.

I always dislike this freaking guy. He's a HUGE walking cluster-fuck.

He had the balls to run for President knowing that this was going to happen. Shameless and arrogant.
