WTHR's Bob Kravitz is reporting the NFL is investigating whether the New England Patriots illegally deflated footballs during the team's AFC Championship game against the Colts Sunday night.

An NFL spokesman confirms to Newsday's Bob Glauber that the matter is under investigation.

Deflated footballs are easier to throw and catch, especially in the stormy conditions that threatened the area. Officials caught USC illegally deflating footballs in 2012, and fined the school.

Kravitz says officials took a ball out of play to weigh it, and that if the Patriots are found guilty of tampering with the balls they will lose draft picks—similar to the team's punishment for 2007's Spygate.

Not if they released the deflated balls just during their offensive series. They have a lot they rotate in and out of the game.

I'm not saying they did it - but the fact the NFL is investigating it is hilarious.

I guess maybe they would have only won by 3 or 4 TDs?

But the patriots aren't in charge of that are they? Isnt that the job of the officials? How would the patriots even know when their deflated balls where in play? I also wondered what the play life of an NFL ball is. Like how many do they use in the course of the game? I heard a baseball's averege lifespan is like 2 or 3 pitches!

Hilarious story none the less. I hope at some point the Patriots try and trot a robot onto the field!

The NFL is also investigating whether the Patriots hypnotized the Colts into not tackling their runners and not covering their receivers.

Balls are constantly switched in and out, especially on rainy days. There is a guy on the sidelines with a towel, If he sent in deflated balls while the pats where on offense, and fully inflated balls while Indy was on offense, the pats had a definite edge.

"According to NFL rules, home teams are required to provide 36 balls for outdoor games and make the balls available for testing with a pressure gauge prior to the game."

Shouldn't the league investigate how the Colts deflated the egos of all their fans who thought their defense was much better than the last time they faced the Pats and how the Colts were going to shock the world and beat the Pats in Foxboro?

balls are also scuffed by the home team to provide a better grip ...the balls are under the control of the home team, thus, the opportunity for fuckery is real

There is no Super Bowl for me this year. I can't stand that fuckface Brady, nor can I cheer for Carroll and the Seahawks (thanks Green Bay for doing everything in your power to throw that game away...) This will literally be the first time in years that I don't have even a passing interest in the game.

Belichick better watch out or Goodell could end up fining him again and then doing nothing else except destroying the incriminating evidence

Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson wasn't allowed to play this season because he spanked his kid...

This whole fiasco could be put to rest if the NFL would just accept the fact that a kinder, safer and more honest game of professional football would make use of these adorable flying puppies:

That game was such a snoozer after the first game but I thought I recalled that there was an odd amount of delays before the plays, that seemed to be due to the refs and one time the ref stopped the game because they put out a ball that was for punting instead of a game ball--I had never heard of that before (apparently you can differentiate visually by a painted marker on the ball.)
