Fox News said Tuesday that Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie and John Kasich will all appear on the dais Thursday for the premiere event.

That leaves Rick Perry and the six other major declared candidates -- Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, and Jim Gilmore -- to appear together during a debate earlier Thursday evening.

The debate in Cleveland marks the beginning of a new stage in the Republican nominating contest, where candidates will likely sharpen their first contrasts with one another and the field's front-runner, Trump. The debates -- which gave new life to presidential candidates like Newt Gingrich in 2012 -- are now only open to the heavily splintered party's favorites.

This is easily going to be the most watched debate in a long time, simply because of Trump and his wildcard status. By this weekend we'll find out if he's a plant, a bafoon, or our next president.

...jeb better get a piece of the donald or he'll be looking like the bush bafoon that he is. yesterday he said he wants to defund planned parenthood because women have other choices. he might as well have puked on his shoes.

Huckabee? I'd have rather heard from Lindsey Graham.

He had to say something. His buddy's in the House had another dog and pony show for their base pretending like they were going to vote to defund it knowing full well it would never come to a vote let alone get signed. But it kept the RW news cycle and their base excited for the day as they pretended to do something and blamed the Democrats for "obstucting"

Meanwhile Boener is trying to go ahead and slide thru a vote to change the law that stops the oil companies who fund him from selling oil from the U.S. to other countries and of course rescind the inheritance tax.

Nice to see that once again the Speakers loyalty lies solely with the American people and not the Koch brothers.

It should be an interesting circus to watch as they all try and compete for airtime with a B list reality TV show host that's used to having an editing staff make him look like the smartest and most powerful guy in the room.

I wish we would see Trump vs Perry in the debate. That would be funny, like two pro wrestlers going at each other

I'm not taking an abortion stance here, but Jebs firm stance will appeal to a lot of people. Taking on a singular issue, like trump on immigration, makes them stand for something in people's minds. What does allergic or Christie stand for? Everything, which means nothing memorable. I look forward to the battle.

I'm hoping for 2 out of 3, but I'm not sayin which 2.

If he got himself some good debate coaches and actually listened to them, the entire tone of his campaign could change overnight. I'm hoping that the others get so flustered and upset they start making hair jokes in frustration.

    Yeah, they do.

    A lot.

And for a wide variety of very good reasons.

That aside, I think they pretty much got the line-up right. I too could see doing without Huckabee in the debate, but couldn't make a good case for any on the outside looking in replacing him. Christie doesn't have a chance in hell either. He'd make a great Secretary of Education but a shitty president. Might have been better to just go with eight or nine and reduce some of the clutter.

...i think its going to be a hell of an entertaining debate. imo abortion is a losing bet for garnering votes, if thats where jeb is looking for votes then hes in trouble already. chris christie will be plagued by bridgegate. that and his engaging with obama after hurricane sandy ostracized him from his own party. trump is so used to being on camera i think he will be the most at ease when the debate starts but like all debates a memorable zinger can go a long way. im looking forward to watching it and i dont even care about any of them. :jj:
