Because we don't want to violate any terrorist right to pack heat.....

Disregarding calls from President Obama to act on the issue, the Senate on Tuesday once again rejected a measure that would ban folks on the terror watch list from acquiring guns.

Senate Democrats, after failing in their efforts to get the measure passed last week, asked for unanimous consent to bring it up again on Tuesday.

But GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, the Senate majority whip, objected and said Democrats were playing politics on the issue.

They ASKED for more than just background checks. Obama could have gotten the law passed for background checks during the last "tragedy" however they pinned an extremely restrictive AWB to the bill. They could EASILY pass a law to stop people from buying a gun if they are in the no fly list, but they chose to pad the bill with complete bullshit. EVERY FUCKING time they do this, then bitch that they aren't following "common sense"... They don't care about the background checks, they want the bigger pictures.

It's so childish. President Obama could say something like, "You know what I love? The American flag. It's just so beautifully designed, it looks great out there flowing in the wind," and the next day three dozen Republicans would be introducing "change the flag" legislation.

Of course, keeping terror suspects who aren't allowed to fly from buying guns does keep marbles out of the NRA's pocket, and we can't have that.

Honestly, xav, those of us who are 2A proponents are in complete agreement with keeping weapons out of the hands of those who would use them illegally. The problem with this 'no fly' list has repeatedly been that some people are placed on it for no other reason than their names are similar to some other person who has suspected ties to terrorism. In extreme cases, it's taken the law abiding citizens months or even years to get their name cleared.

Patently wrong, but thanks for playing.

That's right about the level of discourse we've come to expect from the virulent gun grabbers here.

Op Ed piece from noted right wing rag:

    http://www.latimes.com/opinion/editorials/la-ed-terrorist-watch-list-20151207-story.html

What's more, it's not clear how much impact Feinstein's law would have. The broader watch list, which is actually a database maintained by the FBI's Terrorist Screening Center, apparently had about 480,000 names on it in 2011, according to the FBI, and it has since swelled to about 1.1 million names, according to the ACLU. Of those, the vast majority are noncitizens living overseas; the number of American citizens on the list is believed to be fewer than 10,000 people.

That's important because federal law already bars gun sales to most people who are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents or holders of valid visas, which means the vast majority of the people on the suspected terror list would already be barred from buying a firearm in the U.S. even without Feinstein's law. That leaves us with about 10,000 American citizens (and some legal residents) who, under the proposed law, would be barred from exercising a constitutional right. That gives us pause.

If the terrorists can't get guns how are the republicans supposed to get votes?

It's a reasonable restriction. The 2nd amendment is law of the land but there are reasonable restrictions

It's hypocritical that conservatives want the entire bill of rights overhauled but there can be absolutely no restriction on terrorists getting guns

I hear you. In light of the Due Process clause though, which is very important in its own right, the vast majority of these preemptive restrictions can only be imposed on non-citizens.

Of course, once we're at the point where we have a list of aliens who are suspected of terrorist ties, I'd like to see much more happen to them than simply restricting their ability to access weapons.

It's a no brainer. If you can't fly to Cuba for vacation than you can't own a gun.[IMG]

Does anyone know how someone gets on this Terror Watch List? And can a person get off this list? And who makes the call to put you on this list?

Anyone have any links to articles on this
