The RNC has fired NBC from the February 26, 2016 debate at the University of Houston. Citing the poor treatment the candidates received on Wednesday, including inaccurate and offensive questions, the Republican National Committee is terminating its relationship with all branches of the NBC News network.

Below is the letter sent to NBC this morning:
    https://gop.com/nbc-letter/

    Mr. Andrew Lack
    Chairman, NBC News
    30 Rockefeller Plaza
    New York, New York 10112

    Dear Mr. Lack,

I write to inform you that pending further discussion between the Republican National Committee (RNC) and our presidential campaigns, we are suspending the partnership with NBC News for the Republican primary debate at the University of Houston on February 26, 2016. The RNC’s sole role in the primary debate process is to ensure that our candidates are given a full and fair opportunity to lay out their vision for America’s future. We simply cannot continue with NBC without full consultation with our campaigns.

The CNBC network is one of your media properties, and its handling of the debate was conducted in bad faith. We understand that NBC does not exercise full editorial control over CNBC’s journalistic approach. However, the network is an arm of your organization, and we need to ensure there is not a repeat performance.

CNBC billed the debate as one that would focus on “the key issues that matter to all voters—job growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy.” That was not the case. Before the debate, the candidates were promised an opening question on economic or financial matters. That was not the case. Candidates were promised that speaking time would be carefully monitored to ensure fairness. That was not the case. Questions were inaccurate or downright offensive. The first question directed to one of our candidates asked if he was running a comic book version of a presidential campaign, hardly in the spirit of how the debate was billed.

While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidates’ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBC’s moderators engaged in a series of “gotcha” questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidates’ policies and ideas.

I have tremendous respect for the First Amendment and freedom of the press. However, I also expect the media to host a substantive debate on consequential issues important to Americans. CNBC did not.

While we are suspending our partnership with NBC News and its properties, we still fully intend to have a debate on that day, and will ensure that National Review remains part of it.

I will be working with our candidates to discuss how to move forward and will be in touch.

    Sincerely,

    Reince Priebus
    Chairman, Republican National Committee

If the candidates can't handle a 'Gotcha' question, should they really be president?

Kind of agree. None of them have any passion though, that's the thing. It goes for the "left" as well... If they really cared, they would have raged and walked off...

agree, but many were more like statements or insults, than questions.
they should have asked tough questions instead.
aside from that, they allowed most to give non-answers and go way over time, while others were cut-off or got little time.
it was handled very very poorly

The debate on February 26th is just before the March 1st Super Tuesday primary elections in 13 states, including:
Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia

How can the RNC give up national exposure just before a huge election?
Wonder how much advertising revenue NBC would have made with that debate?

...that letter has trump written all over it. they attempted to insult him with the very first question in the debate. the female moderator telling ben carson the math of his economic plan wont work wasnt an insult, she didnt say he couldnt do math, she said the math doesnt work. all of the on air staff there seem a little goofy. especially those wannabes interjected on the panel to ask 1 question. what, was their mother watching or they needed that on their resume'? all of them were acting goofy and unprofessional.

Absolutely, that goes for any candidate of any party.

These candidates are pissed that they weren't given softball questions so that they could deliver their rehearsed campaign promises.

I like weird questions and I like that the moderators tried to get them to attack one another.

They are there to debate EACH OTHER, not Hillary or the media.

If they make it out of this group, they will have plenty of time to attack Hillary or Obama or, the Media.

Apparently the reality TV star, the doctor that rejects science, the Canadian zombie and the black sheep Bush all need a script, too bad real world events often require thinking on your feet.

Yes because Gotcha question are for the stupid crowd and a weak fucking media. Most people care about the real issues and want real questions and real answers. I know that doesn't play well to the internet crowd or people who just want to trash people they don't like. But most people would love a real debate or a real media asking real questions. I know thats crazy talk on the internet but its true.

I couldn't believe they were dumb enough to let that shithead moderate anyway...anybody that tries to paint this as just gotcha questions is a partisan fucking hack...I hate this debate process but the vitriole , snide and snarky bullshit from the moderators was not appropriate and the dumbass repubs have been taking that horseshit for far too long. it really is fucking insane how that shit is just accepted. cunty cankles knows that her true running mate is the staterun media.

They weren't "gotcha questions". The moderators were just hurling insults. I turned it off.
