Jackie's breakthrough into major radio came in 1981 when longtime writer/producer of the Rick Dees Morning Show on KIIS-FM, Los Angeles, Dave Lipson, discovered Jackie's "Use Your Finger! (516) 922-WINE" telephone service. Each day's offerings were recorded and aired daily on the Dees morning show, eventually leading to Jackie recording daily joke segments just for Dees' shows. That's when Dees suggested Jackie be referred to on his show as "The Joke Man." This turned out to be one of the most popular bits on Dees' legendary morning show.

    From here: http://www.thegauntlet.com/article/1225/23752/Jackie-Martling-Interview

The Gauntlet: I made the mistake listening to the show once with my five year old in the car. She learned a nice joke about 'tits' she repeated to her mom.

Jackie: The bottom line is they will hear them on the playground anyway. If dirty jokes are the worst your kid is doing, they are in great shape.

The Gauntlet: I actually thought it was really funny as I did the same thing, except I heard you in 1983 on KIIS-FM with Rick Dees and repeated the jokes at school.

Jackie: He was the guy that named me 'The Jokeman'.

The Gauntlet: I don't even think I knew what the jokes meant. I just heard you getting laughs so I thought they were funny.

Jackie: We got away with a few double entendres on that show. Sorry about that man. For a while I was on both the Rick Dee's show and Howard Stern Show which is so amazing because they can't be more of a polar opposite. They would play my jokes on the Rick Dees Show in the morning and then I met Howard. I was on with Rick from 1980 until 1984 I think.

Yes, there's not one single thing that Howard didn't steal. Of course this was back before the internet was big and lies now get found out in a day.
