I've always heard that bose speakers are horribly overpriced and sound shitty.

I like bose sound, but I just might not know any better. I do upgrade on speakers for my devices, but I don't really know much about it.

No, they actually are better than other stuff but the question is is it worth the $$ to get a product, while very high quality, isn't that much better than other companies top of the line sound systems.

Go to you're local high end store and listen for yourself.

Bose spends massive amounts of money on advertising...the result? Overpriced products that sound decent, but for the money you can do much better.

This is what I use. I go through 3-5 of these a year. (I usually accidentally step on them.)

I've been using them for more then a decade.

I try to avoid iPod white earphones because they are robber magnets. (Once I had on these, and the dude robbing me didn't even notice them. So I only lost my wallet, not my iPod.)

Besides, I ain't getting to Beats by Dre.

Bose does a decent enough job with their highs and midrange, but actually sucks with bass. Bose speakers are better for classical and acoustic, but sucks for rock, raps, pop, or most modern and popular music.

A few years back we rented a beach house for a week and the owner had one of those Bose clock radio/boom box things. It was surprisingly good sound for the size, but I checked and I think they cost like $500. It's not a $500 sound to me. I actually prefer Sony Studio headphones (I've seen them on the Stern show in the past) and find I catch a lot more of the nuance than through speakers. I have some old Klipsch, but I really wouldn't know how to set up a stereo to sound its best anyway.

Probably not a great choice, for really good sound. I have a pair of Klipsch $80 ear buds and the over-the-ear Sony's blow them away for not much more money. They're good for when you're away from home, I suppose. And in that case, $10 is good as you do tend to lose or damage them.

My ear isn't good enough to tell great from just really good, but the Bose system in my car sounds better than any other car I've owned by far. But I don't get into bass thumping hard enough to break windows...I'm an adult.
