I'm really starting to believe in premonitions now. I had this awful feeling when I left the house someone I love would pass away today. Sure enough - it happened to an old hero of mine Darryl Dawkins. The guy JUST tweeted 16 hours ago!!
"The Babymaker" was my favorite dunk name that he had. RIP funnyman. It bums me out to think about when Basketball was good.
Ohhhh, this makes me so sad My father and I watched that infamous dunk that gloriously smashed the backboard. RIP, Big Guy
There have been many power dunkers of the years.....but he did it with such grace....it was like the basket was lowering itself to allow his dunks.

No cause of death was given. After a 15-year NBA career that included stints with the Sixers and Nets, Dawkins played overseas, then took up residence in the Lehigh Valley. He earned the nickname "Chocolate Thunder," as coined by Stevie Wonder, for his trademark monstrous dunks. During his career two shattered backboards fell victim to his slams in a three-week period in 1979. Because of him, the NBA made backboard breaking an offense punishable by a fine and/or suspension. After seven seasons with the Sixers, Dawkins was traded to the Nets in 1982. Injuries, however, hampered the 6-11 Dawkins. He had stints with the Utah Jazz (1987) and Detroit Pistons (1987-89) before heading overseas. He played in Italy for two years before playing with the Harlem Globetrotters. After stints with Continental Basketball Association and International Basketball Association, he retired in 2000. Dawkins averaged 12 points, 6.1 assists and 1.4 blocks per game throughout his NBA career.
