Florida man bites lap dog named Cujo, tears eye out of socket: deputies BY Rachelle Blidner NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Wednesday, April 15, 2015, 8:27 AM David Etzel was arrested after allegedly biting a Shih Tzu dog in Lake Worth, Fla., Friday. A Florida man was arrested for biting his mother's lap dog named Cujo and tearing its eye out of the socket Friday, police said. David Etzel, 36, who had been drinking, frightened the Shih Tzu by picking him up by the throat, his mother told Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputies. Cujo bit the man, who decided to bite the dog back, his mother said. The 10-pound dog was left with his right eye hanging out of the socket, according to the arrest report obtained by the Orlando Sun-Sentinel. The dog looked as though he had been attacked or run over by a car, a veterinarian said. Etzel was picked up at his Lake Worth house, where he had been asleep, deputies said. He told authorities he would never hurt Cujo. Etzel was charged with animal cruelty and is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. The injured pet is named after the 1981 Stephen King novel "Cujo," about a rabid St. Bernard that attacks a town.
